Ieoa burial site

The Ieoa burial ground is an ancient Indigenous Ariddian cemetary located at the foot of a low hill deep inside the pristine forest of the Ariddian island of Ocea. It is thought to be approximately 2,850 years old, and is the oldest of its kind anywhere in Ariddia.

Although Wymgani people traditionally had no concept of sacredness in a religious sense, this site is of tremendous historic importance. It is situated on lands under the care and responsability of the Wymgani Aehu'u community. Visitors may approach, but the site itself is cordoned off, and is listed as a World Heritage site on the World Heritage Sites & Treasures List (previously on the now defunct World Heritage List).

There is, in fact, fairly little to see, other than eroded mounds of earth, some of them fortified with equally eroded stones. But the cemetary is thought to have been used for several centuries almost three millenia ago. The setting itself is peacefully beautiful, surrounded by a lush, untouched rainforest.
