Iesus Christi is a leading Catholic nation in The Reich known for its persecution of non-humans (whom they call metahumans), as well as Jews, Protestants, and other non-Catholics with the notable exception of Muslims. Iesus Christi is also known for its much more popular persecution of human traffickers.

History

The nation now known as Iesus Christi has a history going back millennia, however the history of Christian IC goes back to the 10th century, when Celtic missionaries led by St. Finbarr evangelized the various warlords ruling the quasi-Gaelic land. They warlords remained divided, however, until the Crusades when the waring tribes were united in one common goal, under one monarch, who dedicated the land to Christ - thus the nation Iesus Christi was born.

The next significant event in Iesus history was the St. Dominic crusade. Around the time of the Reformation, the kingdom of Iesus Christi waged a generations-long war with its southern areas, which still remained pagan. Finally, the last cheiftain of the south surrendered to the knights of Iesus and the land became known as St. Dominic due to the influential Dominican missionaries following the knights into the area.

During the enlightenment period and after, Iesus liberalized while still remaining relatively traditional. Elves gained significant influence in Iesus society, slavery was abolished and Protestantism legalized, yet the nation by and large stayed faithful to Rome and the monarchy began its patronage of the Church.

World War I would change all that, however. Though the country entered on the side of the Allies, its military record in the conflict was marked with devestation and defeat. Following the war came mismanagement, chaos and anarchy, with the monarchy doing nothing to combat it.

When the king of Iesus did try to combat it, he came under the sway of Marxism and implemented several radical leftist-leaning and anti-Catholic ordinances. He and many others saw traditional Iesus Christian 'values' as being out of date and the cause of the humiliation during the first world war.

The radical leftist econimic and culture reforms, combined with the flow on effects of World War one lead to....

The Coup Five major reasons had be identified as the main reasons for the Fascist Military coup that eventually overthrow the Monarchist republic.

Regional and religious divisions. The rise of the various leftist ideology added widely differing culture, traditions, and perspectives to the Iesus social fabric. The tension created by these new ideologies strained the Iesus culture in a time when Iesus Christi could lest tolerate division.

Social and economic divisions. Iesus Christi, by the beginning of the twentieth century, was a society of extreme wealth for the landowners, the Church and the army. It was also a society of abject poverty for the vast majority, many of whom still worked in agriculture . With the crushing depression and starvation post World War One, the poverty and hardships only became worse, leading to a crushing economic and social crisis on a massive scale. By 1940 1/5 Citizens were starving and those who traditional had wealth and security found themselves also on the brink. The Economic reforms proposed by the King and his parliament would have ruined many people completely, and appeared to be only enhancing the problems.

Political divisions. Political power rested with those the King approved of and those who dominated socially and economically, but as the twentieth century progressed they found themselves increasingly threatened by those - and there were many - with grievances. A confusing array of political groups, from the anarchists on the extreme left of the political spectrum to the Fascists on the extreme right, sprung up as the country entered deeper and deeper poverty. The situation was only made more extreme with the subsequent Monarchist endorsement of Leftist movements and the introduction of their social reforms.

Anti Internationalism. Following World War one, there was a great deal of anger at the politcs that had got Iesus involved in 'that foriegn war'. This resentment and anger was only made worse by the post war economic crisis and starvation, many people feeling they had been abandoned by the world. This anger found expression in anti metahumanisn and Christofascism.

The Pan-Iesus government act. The Act came to pass amidst scenes of mixed emotions when the King declared it - It was the final step in his ‘Liberation’ of Iesus Christian life. Protests and Street parties illustrated how divided much of the country was. The act itself created a pan unity government consisting of mainly Leftist and moderates. With fair reaching powers to combat the crisis within the nation, they continued the Kings sweeping reforms against all areas of Iesus Christian life, including the Church and Military. Poverty, and even starvation remained high, and even appeared to get worse in certain areas as the government took direct control of farming areas but it is much debated amongst historians if the leftist reforms would have indeed worked given the time.

On September the first, wide spread protesting brought Iesus Christi to a halt. The protest and general strike was supposedly in response to the declaration of rationing and the compulsory purchase of vast tracts of land and business’s. In reality those factors were simply outlets for a wider and deeper anger over the poverty and starvation throughout the land. The Protests were aided and encouraged by a many different social groups, including radicals on both sides of the political divide - Most noteworthy(and eventually pivotal) being local Catholic hierarchy and young military officers(often called the young jackals) who despised the governments assault on the armed forces and traditions of the nation.

The end of the monarchist republic

On September the 21st, Iesus Christi would change forever. On the 21st of September, a coup d'état by the Iesus military overthrow the government in what appeared to be a bloodless coup. The heads of the Iesus armed forces, General Franco Jerome(army), General Patrick McCullum(airforce), Admiral Vincent Ro(navy) and Commander Adrian McMorun(police) lead troops into the Imperial Palace, surprising the King and his cabinet during a emergency meeting. No resistance was meet at all as across the country the military took control of government facilities amd the Peoples Parliament buildings.

Midday on the 21st, General Jerome addressed a worried nation. He called for calm, saying that the armed forces only were acting to protect the “needs and traditions of the people of Iesus”. He also announced that the king was taken into protective custody within the palace, and Marshall law was in effect. He also promised democracy would be restored as soon as possible, and urged people to return to work. Public response to the news was extremely favourable, crowds gathered outside the Imperial Palace chanting their support of the military coup.

Matters worsen By Late October the situation was still critical, the military junta was struggling to cope with the crisis – their mixed approach combined with their determination to build ‘national unity government’ from the left and right only gradually brought the changes required to help people. For many people, things weren’t happening fast enough. Continued political tension between the extreme left and right was still endangering the country, and now the Junta looked overseas for help to alleviate the crippling poverty and starvation.

“Remember, remember the first of December”

Angered by what they saw as betrayal to “the status quo”, young army officers lead by a young Colonel Matthew Iesus(snr) demanded General Franco Jerome seize sole power and take the actions needed to save Iesus Christi from “the Communist metahuman conspiracy”. These young officers from every branch of the military had one thing in common – the desire to see Iesus return to its traditional authoritarian Catholic roots. They had formed themselves into a reactionary fascist vanguard against what they perceived as the “dangers that faced the Christian world”

The elderly General was reluctantly persuaded by his “Young Jackals’ and on the First of December a second coup was launched, this time lead by the “Young Jackals”. A series of lightening purges within the military was carried out against those who “Endangered the Iesusian way of life” in the early hours of the first. General Patrick McCullum and Admiral Vincent Ro were among the officers summarily put to death. Then at 7am Iesus radio stations announced “Code red”. Tanks surrounded the imperial Palace and troops lead by Colonel Matthew Iesus stormed the building, taking into custody the king and the royal family.

By 10am, the second Junta was clearly in control. In his first address to the nation, Matthew Iesus informed the country that General Jerome was in sole power. He swore fidelity to Christ and the Iesus way of life, he also declared “war upon those who would destroy us” and promised “rivers of blood” for the enemies of Iesus Christi. He called for “the faithful” to rally to the banner of Christ and country. Matthew Iesus' first radio speech was a rallycry for Christofascism.

With cries of “Ourselves alone” and “Christ is King” many civilians answered his call and rallied around the Imperial palace(elsewhere in the country, civilian mobs reported to Military facilities for ‘orders’). The King begged for calm as he was brought to the steps of the palace, he was answered with a hail of insults and objects - One striking him on the head, causing him to fall down. Seeing this the crowd, (aided and abetted by the military presence) swarmed over the king. He was literally hacked to death by the mob who madly chanted “No King but Christ!” His brothers and family were also thrown to the crowd by Matthew Iesus who proclaimed. “Only Christ rules is Iesus Christi! Death to all enemies of Christ!”

Communists, Aristocracy, Liberals, Protestants and Metahumans were all now deemed “enemies of the state”. The reactionary revolution had begun

Education: "The Iesus leadership appreciate the difficulty of indoctrinating the older generation....They are more tainted by the past....We must be determined to mold the new generation along Nationalist Humanpure lines. We must control the youth, those who have the youth on their side control the future" General Matthew Iesus Snr. Speech to the Generals.

The fascist government of Iesus Christi (led by the National Socialist Iesus Christi Workers Party) has taken intense interest in Education since their takeover. Under a policy of Change the children first the Iesus government has had amazing results in creating a obedient populace. The basis for all curriculums in Iesus is the Catholic Faith(or atleast the regimes interpretation of it) and Nationalist ideology. For example all Iesus Christi schools teach the theology Metahuman heresy as doctrinal fact.

Today the Ministry of Art and Education is lead by Max Greal. A devoted fascist, he continues to refine the national education system to ensure loyalty to the Regime and its ideals. Under the Blood and honour laws all teachers must be of the highest 'Racial and ideology" standards and registered with the Ministry of Social order.

Resistance The fascist revolution in Iesus Christi in the mid 20th century was a massive defeat for secular and democratic Iesus. It meant not only a loss of political freedom, but soon would lead to savage attacks on the people’s living standard and mentality. Years after the revolution these attacks on the living standards have reached a new level of cruelty as the Ministry of Social Order under the control of Bridgette Iesus seeks to cement its authority.

It is strange that in the years following the revolution that there was no real organisation to take up the struggle. During the initial bloodless coup all the political parties except the communists had, in their majority, supported the Revolutionary officers or at least remained silent. Then, when the blood flowed in the streets as Army radicals took change, it was too late to formulated an organised opposition to the fascists.

Thus it is not so surprising that the first acts of resistance came from isolated individuals. Some of the first acts of resistance happened even as violence became apparent… Several labourers cut telephone lines and others distributed crudely made leaflets denouncing the new military government. These actions were quickly punished with deat-the first of many martyrs to come. It was soon apparent to everyone the Fascists weren’t going to except civil disobedience…yet these acts were rare and sporadic in the early days of the fascist revolution. The country longed for stability in the wake of turmoil, poverty and near starvation…in those early days many people chose to ignore the growing injustice rather than oppose it. Many more silently approved the fascists approach to the metas and their communists allies.

In recent years due to many reasons, namely the actions of the Ministry and the excessive control exhibited in every field of life(esp the church, and clerical arrests), resistance has grown. Individual gestures of resistance have increased, even if many of them are simple and symbolic-such as the old women who sits on the train and trips soldiers up with her umbrella. More substantial resistance measures have occurred too. A number of small groups have been formed – some conservative catholic, others unionists or simply people who have lost someone within the machinery of Iesus fascism.

There is rumoured to be three main currents within the resistance. 1)The exile movement founded by those who fled the revolution all those years ago, and constantly bolstered by those who sneak out of the country. 2)Are those who resist from within, and are generally believed to be more conservative and hard-line than those who have left the nation. A far more eclectic group than the exiles. 3)Secretive societies within the military. Little is known about these groups, or the exact nature of their beliefs. For a time Patrick Iesus tried to unite the these groups, but this was cut short by his disappearance following a Vegana fire attack.

For security and these political reasons, resistance has remained a broad federation of groupings. These include both networks(groups with a military role) and movements(groups that aim to make propaganda etc). Within these groups a triangular cell structure is most often used, so that activists knew the minimum possible….thus avoiding the possibility of revealing much information while under torture.

The penalties for resistance have been severe, but in recent years Bridgette Iesus has made them even more terrifying. Many people simply vainish after being arrested, many are thought to vanish into places like The_Devil_den

It is common for prisoners to be burnt or electrified all over their bodies during interrogation, parents and love ones are often held in cells nearby on the hope that the cries of the victim will break them and make them talk. It is common practice to beat, mutilate, drown and sexual assault prisoners. Five years ago it was decreed by Bridgette Iesus that those convicted of sabotage would have ten relatives shot, and another ten assigned to forced Labour. It is unknown if this deterrent has worked, but as seen with the Iesus priest martyrs….violence does not always deter the willing.

Sports

Iesus Christi's national sport is rugby union, followed closely by cricket, and then netball. Rugby, Cricket and netball are followed almost religiously within the country, with every district and neighborhood having has its own teams. The sports are supported strongly by central governmen, thus over 35.5% of Iesus citizens over the age of 15 regularly participate in organised sporting activities. With such strong support the government rarely will suspended sporting gatherings for any reason.
