ABOUT IMATRON

More than you'll ever need to know or care about Imatron.

FACT BOOK:

In this timeline, Imatron is a space fairing nation with technology that could be found a thousand years from now. They have established colonies in orbit, on the Moon, Mars, Europa, Gameyete and a few of Jupiter's other moons.

Generally peaceful, Imatronians rarely get involved in the political aspects of life in the East Pacific, often considering direct conflict to be below them.

Imatronians may come across as condescending and arrogant, but with good reason. Their education system is their priority, though they also juggle the competing demands of commerce and defense.

Their economy is a frightening version of capitalism, and their economy is driven by powerhouse technology and automotive industries. Book publishing is very much alive and well in this technologically advanced society.

Under normal circumstances, it would be impossible for the Imatronians to perfect faster than Light (FTL) capabilities unless they had another million or so years. However, with the arrivals of the Lizards, the Codexians and the Pax, Imatron has studied FTL technologies for many years. Being cautious of advanced technology, Imatronians have begun experimenting with their new version of the hyper drive, and hope to explore the galaxy further.

HISTORY

Out of Character

The Early Days
Imatron started out in The Pacific on March 14, 2004. Sick of the spammers on the regional board page (which still sickens him). He typed in the word Atlanic and arrived at the region Atlantic. As a n00b, he joined the ACC And quickly rose to power as a black ops operative. However after the invasion of Iraq he realized that the ACC was a bust. The East Pacific Days
After ward, he hopped from region to region where he finally settled in the East Pacific. Here he became one of the founding members of the East Pacific offsite fourm, and most technologically advanced nations in the region. After a three month hiatus, he returned to his duties as a mod for the site. He was responcible for the Chimera incident and inspired afew new technologies.
The Final Days
However, people hate an advanced civilization, and an angry group of players formed intent on linching anyone with advanced technology. After three times of being accused of god moding, he got so ticked off he decided to wipe his slate clean of all "nasty ubertechs". However an advanced civilization doesn't just regress over night, something needed to be done that made sense. A rapture was absurd, and then the idea hit him TIME TRAVEL!
Using the last of his ubertechs, he used a time machine to implode the timeline and have reality rewrite itself so that any of his future technology would be lifted from either the Microsoft Space Simulator or Arthur C. Clarke's 3001. Noone got the concept and he left Nationstates forever tired of any national RP outside a novel.

LEADERS

John Ranclaw: (Earth President) Ranclaw is an honest man with high moral values. However, he has been known to look the other way for some of his subordinates.

OTHER POSITIONS

Dr. Finitevus Satan: (Councilor of Science) Not much is known to the public about Dr. Satan or his activities. He is rarely seen, and when he is, he is found to be quite creepy. He doesn't get much sun and looks gray in color. Rumors of illegal experimentation and heinous crimes he has committed bubble to the surface every now and again, but never above a whisper.

NOTABLE TEAMS

ALPHA TEAM

The Alpha Team is Imatron's top secret team of highly skilled, highly trained and well armed black ops team. They handle only the most important missions. Their code names are whispers in the halls and minds of their enemies. Their identities, kept secret. Their existence, officially disavowed. They are The Alpha Team.

Dack

Brigadier General
(Team Leader)
[[1]]As the Alpha Team’s leader Dack is a skilled sniper and an excellent pilot. Dack knows trouble when he sees it, and can make a plan to get his team out safely at a moment’s notice. There have been rumors of him being romantically involved with Rita.

Zed

Colonel
(Special Agent / Pilot)
[[2]]When you need back up, Zed is the man. Zed is an Alpha Team Special agent, and usually comes with the big guns. Zed is an even better pilot than Dack, and tends to act like he’s the coolest member of the Alpha Team. He also has a connection to the supposedly non-existant Team Zero.

Rita

Lieutenant Colonel
(Communications and Computer Specialist)
[[3]] Graduating at the top of her class of the Net Force Academy, Rita serves as the computer and communications expert of the Alpha Team. She can spot the team form the Mobile Command Center, or hack her way into any enemy system. Rumor has it she his romantically involved with Dack.

Flex

Major
(Weapons and Heavy Artillery)
[[4]] A no-nonsense guy, Flex is the team’s stoic. Flex can fire any weapon, and drive any vehicle. He is strong, smart, and tough as nails.

Charge

Captain
(Demolition)
[[5]] As the resident demolition man, Charge has a reputation for being a maverick and a thrill seeker. Charge can make anything explode, combust, or implode with spit and rubber bands. Sometimes, people get the impression he loves his job a little too much, but he gets the job done.

Widget

Captain
(Engineer)
[[6]] As the repair man of the team, Widget can chew gum and take a fighter apart, and still have enough time to catch his favorite Holo-Cast. For him quick and efficient work is good work. He has a fondness for classic Hover-Cars, and especially restoring historic vehicles. He knows most people don’t understand his motor-babble, so he breaks it down into layman’s terms, but he can techno babble with the best of them.

Stretch

First Lieutenant
(Medical Officer)
[[7]] Stretch is one of the youngest members of the Alpha Team. He has not seen much direct combat as he worked in a MASH unit a way from any battles. Usually the voice of reason, he is the most humane of his team members. Though, this may get on some of his teammates (particularly Flex and Dack’s), nerves he is still a valued team member.

Cam

Second Lieutenant
(Team Spotter)
[[8]] Cam is the most recent member of the team and is fairly new at field work. She can get nervous at times, but always pulls through in the end.

SHIPS:

Galactic Explorer

The Galactic Explorer is a large spacecraft built for visiting the vast unexplored realms of the galaxy. Its twin fuel tanks carry hydrogen slush for its fusion engines, which create enormous amounts of propulsion by fusing hydrogen atoms.

Although capable of acceleration up to 4Gs, the ‘‘Galactic Explorer’‘ is designed for traveling with a sustained 1G of acceleration to provide an Earth-like environment that is healthiest for the human body and less disorienting to the mind. During flight the local sense of down is toward the engines at the back of the ship.

While not the largest ship in the fleet, the ‘‘Galactic Explorer’‘ offers the largest living areas, and features an open mall-like environment built around an atrium with trees, birds, bugs, squirrels and raccoons. This atrium also has the botanical gardens and recycles most of the ship's oxygen.

  • Mass: 10,000 metric tons
  • Length: 200 m
  • Propulsion: Nuclear Fusion
  • Max Acceleration: 4G
  • Fuel Duration at Max Accel: 317 y

Bussard Ramjet

The Bussard Ramjet uses its huge magnetic funnels to gather interstellar hydrogen to fuel its engines. Using its internal fuel reserves to accelerate hydrogen up to a fraction of the speed of light, as the magnetic funnel begins to capture more interstellar hydrogen. A tightly focused beam of hydrogen is shot aft into the fusion reactors. The blue panels extending from the engine area are radiators that dissipate excess heat. The yellow tanks are used to store extra hydrogen for deceleration.

The living quarters are forward, extending outward from the core of the craft to keep the occupants a safe distance from the high-energy particles streaming into the funnel to the fusion chamber.

  • Mass: 10,000 metric tons
  • Length: 400 m
  • Propulsion: Nuclear Fusion
  • Max Acceleration: 2G
  • Fuel Duration at Max Accel: Unlimited (refuels)

F-79 Galactic Fighter

The F-79 is a direct decent of the F-16. Extremely versatile, it is capable of spaceflight, atmospheric entry, and landing and take off.

Its antimatter engines provide it with more than enough power of an easy acceleration of 8G. The crew gets nervous when refueling as a single contaminant of matter will make the craft, and everything around it explode!

Though equipped with antimatter and atomic weaponry, the F-79 is mainly used as a search and rescue craft. Occasionally it will annihilate the wayward comet or asteroid that strays too close to Earth.

Its impressive maneuverability and construction can also allow it to withstand gravity wells of up to 1G.

  • Mass: 100 metric tons
  • Length: 40 m
  • Propulsion: Antimatter
  • Max Acceleration: 8G
  • Fuel Duration at Max Accel: 30 y

Zander Freighter

The Zander Freighter is an awesome ship to behold, especially from a MMU. Its orange cargo modules are dropped off at space stations, surface colonies, and asteroid mines, and replaced by other modules filled with other cargo.

Although the craft can be operated completely by robots and computers, and automatic controls, a human presence is maintained. The long, quiet passages from ports makes the Zander Freighter popular with poets, scholars, and others who seek solitude.

Although dwarfed by the cargo area, the living quarters are quite large and elegant- many fitted with oak-paneled walls, ornately plastered ceilings, spiral stair cases, and creaking libraries (Even though there are more books and the same information can be found in the ship's computers). Crew members can sometimes go for entire journeys without seeing each other.

  • Mass: 100,000 metric tons (20,000 without cargo)
  • Length: 1100 m
  • Propulsion: Nuclear Fusion
  • Max Acceleration: 2G
  • Fuel Duration at Max Accel: 634 y

All Terrain Lander (ALT)

The ALT is used as transportation from an orbiting spacecraft to the surface of the planet, moon, etc. The ALT is strong enough to withstand even the roughest atmospheric entries, and has vertical landing capabilities.

The ALT can be deployed from almost any of the fleet's ships (save the F-79) at any time. And can be returned at anytime, during which refueling takes place.

Extremely popular with starship pilots, the ALT is the sports car of the fleet. Although officially frowned upon, the compact, well-powered, and maneuverable ALT is sometimes used (and mainly by Admirals) for figure-eight racing between space stations or through a solemn of satellites!

  • Mass: 100 metric tons
  • Length: 50 m
  • Propulsion: Micro fusion
  • Max Acceleration: 3G
  • Fuel Duration at Max Accel: 20 y

STATIONS AND COLONIES

Imatron's power is not just limited to the Earth. Read on for the Imatronian colonies.

EARTH

Imatronian Tower

The Imatronian Tower is literally a massive city connected to the Earth's surface by a long needle like space elevator. For the two and a half hour journey into orbit, riders can watch a movie, buy a snack or play a game in the elevator's seats.

Much of the population lives here, and depending on how far up they are the less gravity they have.

Much of Imatron's space craft launches happen here, and house much of Arcadia's telecommunications capabilities.

Ring Stations

The eight Ring Stations are located at about 35,316 km above the Earth's surface. It is popular with travelers because its circular design and rate of rotation provides a 1G environment, which is appreciated by those who work and live in space. The spokes are often used as medical and technological research because the closer to the station's core, the less gravity. Spokes can be used as a low-gravity recovery unit for heart patients. Other spokes can be used as hotels in which guests can pick how much gravity they prefer.

Along the top of the station (the ring not facing Earth) is a large cargo bay.

  • Mass: 500,000 metric tons
  • Length: 1200 m
  • Acceleration: .1G

LUNA

Lunar Orbiter

The Lunar Orbiter began as a construction shack for those building the Lunar Surface Colony, but kept growing to the point where it's sometimes called "the maze." It was built one module at a time, making use of cargo and fuel tanks (for boosting cargo up from Earth). Rather than allowing the tanks and containers to burn up on reentry, they were fitted with thrusters and sent over to lunar orbit.

Although the recycled cylinders were transported from low-Earth orbit to the building site 4100 km above the Moon, using them kept the building costs down for the Lunar Surface Colony.

Workers prefer the ‘‘Lunar Surface Colony’‘ because it actually has gravity, preferring to drink their coffee out of a mug and not a bag. At the moment, the ‘‘Lunar Orbiter’‘ is once more being used as a refueling and storage station.

  • Mass: 200 metric tons
  • Length: 400 m
  • Acceleration: .1G

Lunar Surface Colony

Originally, the Lunar Surface Colony was meant to be a research station for studying things as the Earth's atmosphere, and astronomy. However, the colony slowly grew and is now populated by both military and civilian buildings.

Major hotel corporations have built their own domes on the Moon, and it serves at quite the tourist trap. An old joke involving a woman packing obscene amounts of helmets claiming you can't be seen wearing the same hat on the moon comes to mind, as well as the joke that the restaurants on the moon have excellent food, but no atmosphere.

MARS

Mars Orbiter

The twin Mars Orbiters are unusual in that they were constructed in low-Earth orbit, equipped with engines and flown into Martian orbit. Although the propulsion system could only generate a fraction of a G, it made for a smooth, comfortable ride for the crew.

Located at 3389 km above the Martian surface, it served as a critical staging area for the building of the Martian Surface Colony. It continues to serve as a research facility, service station, and a hotel. If in the event the Martian Surface Colony’s life-support systems were to fail, it could serve as an emergency facility.

The centripetal force from the rotation of the Mars Orbiters provides a pleasant gravitational environment for residential units and major work areas along its perimeter.

Martian Surface Colony

With the discovery of a water depository on Mars, Imatron was quick to build a colony there. Here, residential units are housed in addition to the military and research facilities. It is hoped that the Mars terraforming process can begin with this humble colony.

  • Aries Colony

JUPITER

Jovian Orbiter

Orbiting the planet Jupiter are the impressive Jovian orbiters. Looking like a hybrid of a Ring Station and a Mars Orbiter, this station served as a critical part in the Jovian colonization program.

Equipped with state-of-the-art telescopes, the Jovian Orbiters are a great place to observe the stars a long distance away from the sun.

  • Mass: 500,000 metric tons
  • Length: 1200 m
  • Acceleration: .1G
  • Zeus Station

Galilean Colonies

Located on Jupiter's biggest moons, these colonies are used for refueling the water tanks on far traveling ships. They are not as populous (yet) as the other colonies, they play a vital role in Imatronian society.

  • Europa
  • Calisto
  • Gamyede

OTHER

Oort Station

Primarily used for refueling missions that divert comets towards Mars and Venus for terraforming purposes.
