This article deals with Internet Relay Chat as it relates to NationStates. For more general information, see the Wikipedia article on this subject.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of instant communication over the Internet, popularly used by many members of the NationStates community. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion groups called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication.

Most NationStates discussion is on the EsperNet IRC network (irc.esper.net, port: 6667). There are many channels, but the most common are:
