This article deals with Internet Relay Chat as it relates to NationStates. For more general information, see the Wikipedia article on this subject.
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of instant communication over the Internet, popularly used by many members of the NationStates community. It is mainly designed for group (many-to-many) communication in discussion groups called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication.
Most NationStates discussion is on the EsperNet IRC network (irc.esper.net, port: 6667). There are many channels, but the most common are:
- #nationstates - general NationStates chat
- #nationstates_general - NationStates chat, specifically for General forum posters
- #nationstates_politics - RL political discussion
- #nationstates_technical - the IRC equivalent of the Technical forum
- #sport - OOC discussion and chat about NationStates sports, particularly the World Cup series, and other things that cross the minds of sport-geeks.
- #themodcave - a place to make request for NationStates Moderator intervention, idling is prohibited
- #unitednations - discussion of all things UN
- #nswiki - discussions of this very place
Note that if you use Tor for privacy, that all Tor servers are Klined on all Esper.net servers.
