Irondin is an arctic archipelago nation in the north Atlantic Ocean. It is part of both North America and Europe, and is one of the few nations that straddles more then one continent without overseas possessions.

North Irondin is what remains of the old Irondin, after a Cival war It is much like its nation of old.

Government

North Irondin is a direct Republic, due to the fact that 98% of the population lives in Industria and hinderland. Shaun "Church" Churchman runs the North Irondin Government.

Economy

North Irondin's Economy, compared to its south counter part, is strong, with no unemployment due to the civil war, all government controlled factories have been returned to private business.

Military

North Irondin's army is made up mostly of armour. There are only 4 footmen squads (there is going to be a 5th squad, but it is very classified), and they are Navy-SEAL like units. All Irondin Armour is Irondin-made. Its backbone is the IHA Devastator, an MBT based off the Merkava. Also numerous is the IHAAA Hellfire, an SAM tank that is highly effective at shooting down bombers. There are also many other types of armour. There is a small Navy, but no Air Force yet.

History

Origins

The first settlers

Irondin's history is quite long, tracing all they back to when the first people came to North America from Asia via the Bering land bridge. Inuit who moved east instead of south found Irondin to be an ideal home, due to it huge fisheries. For many years, they lived in peace, until the Norse came from the east and began to settle. With their arrival, tribes began to form and went to war with each other. This off-and-on conflict, called the Tribal Uprising, slogged on until about 1650, when the Syslock tribe was able to take over all the land that is known as Irondin today.

Irondin in the 1700s

During the 1700s, Irondin was able to keep itself independent from European powers, and was a place that accepted refugees from Europe during the upheavals of the Industrial Revolution and French Revolution (in fact, Shaun Churchman is a blood relative of a noble family that fled France during the revolution).

Irondin in modern times

World War I

It was not until WWI that Irondin became a world player. Its aid was highly sought by both the Allies and the Central Powers, but in the end, Irondin chose to side with the Allies, and began to defend Allied shipping, thus helping end WWI. Like the U.S., it called for no punishment for the Central Powers. Irondin refused to support the Treaty of Versailles and never joined the League of Nations.

Russian refugees

Many Russians came to Irondin after the Communist takeover of Russia, and even more refugees found arrived after escaping Stalin’s reign of terror.

World War II

After the start of World War II, many in Irondin called for neutrality. They did not want to help the Allies, due in part to their actions at the end of the first World War. It was not until the Nazis began attacking Irondin (so they could use it as a stepping stone to invade Canada) that Irondin declared war on Germany and once agen helped protect British shipping in the Atlantic.

Cold War

After World War II, Irondin remained a non-aligned nation, although it (secretly) often tried its best to undermine both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. It almost became a U.S.S.R. puppet when the Communist Party won the election in '64, but it lost the next election in '69 when the people realized what the Party was trying to do. After that, most of the governments elected by Irondinians have been very libertarian. Irondin began drifting towards the U.S. when the Cold War ended. Because of its non-alignment during the Cold War, however, the Cold War's end had very little affect on Irondin.

Irondin collapses

It was not until close relations were formed with Roach-Busters that Irondin started to act strongly in the world stage. Many events with Fascist White State and other nations marked this interesting time. During a mission to Roach-Busters, however, this would all come to an end. JC, the Minister of Defence, was killed in an attack. After this, Doug Churchman (no relation to Shaun Churchman) lost the will to run the nation and resigned; after a series of unfortunate events, Irondin fell apart and died.

Operation Mongoose and its aftermath

Recently, there has been a huge scandal in Irondin, involving Irondin's main ally, Roach-Busters. It started when two members of RB's Cabinet thought that the fact that communist parties in Irondin (and the fact that Irondin was a democracy in itself) was too big a threat to RB interests. To "save Irondin from communism," they (without getting approval from J.L.) sent "Agent Bravo," (a subversive agent) into Irondin to incite hatred of communism by staging terrorist attacks on innocents and pinning the blame for the atrocities on local communists. This plan unravelled, however, when Grant Fyllat, the leader of the Marxist-Leninist Party, staged his own investigation and discovered Bravo's involvement and his connections to RB leadership. This erupted in a huge scandal in Irondin, and the next election saw many people vote for the Irondin United Communist Party (a merger of all the communist parties), which gained the majority of seats in the Reichstag. Grant became the Speaker of the Reichstag, replacing Gregory Velms, who was seen as a dead weight in the crisis due to the fact that he did little more then try to ban the communist parties). This election, plus the Mongoose scandal (and the past history with Roach-Busters), has led to a very powerful anti-J.L. and anti-RB movement in Irondin.
