Demographics

Geography

Pádrogüe consists in hundreds of islands, some mere outcroppings of rock, some several hundred square kilometres in size. The total area is 82,982,064 km². The capital city is Adrián, located on a bay on the largest island, Oveto. Other major cities are Tenerif, Veitori, Barandon, Ketr Delek, and Çiutà Mensca. There are seven Provinces: Teruón, Erriade, Nuevo Murôga, Ahimér, Orque, Malacò, and Amatagüe. The highest point is Monte Hurés, on the island Mensca, at 6,253 m. The lowest point is at sea level. The hottest temperature recorded was 48° in 1992 at Coxai. The lowest temperature was -52° in a freak arctic storm at the town Dek.

People

Pádrogüe's population is 53,271,600, of which 26% are under 18 and 22% are over 65. The population density is 4.1 people per km², and 63% of the population lives in cities or towns. Pádrogüe is an enthically diverse nation. The largest ethnic group is Iberic (76%). Other groups include Nordic (6%), Germanic (4%), French (4%), Slavic (4%), Other (4%). About 82% of the population speaks Padrogüés fluently or near fluently. Also, 15% of the population speaks Eriadek fluently. (For more info on languages, see the Culture section).

Infrastructure / Transportation

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">bus.jpg

</div>

As Pádrogüe consists of islands, there is an excellent state-owned ferry company, called BarNa, short for Bartran Naçionâ. Each sizable island has a regional bus system, and larger cities such as Adrián and Barandon have regional transit systems. Each island has national and regional highways, also. Around major cities, there are freeway networks. Pádrogüe has eight international airports, the largest of which is in Adrián. Also, Pádrogüe has numerous large port facilities. The biggest port facility is in Barandon, where most international sea traffic stops. As some of Pádrogüe's islands are remote, most of the inter-island telephone and general internet and television service is done by satelite. The largest service provider in Pádrogüe is Agbor Telecommunications.

Culture

Pádrogüe can be divided into two distinct cultures; Padrogüés and Eriadek. Padroüés culture covers most of the country, and is primarily Iberic. Eriadek appears to have no known origins; in other words it is a completely unique society.

Food

As Pádrogüe is an island nation, the sea plays a major role in culture. The national food is called Raun, a stew made with halibut, scallops, mussels, rice, saffron, and other spices. Also, cheese, wine, bread, and lamb play important roles in Pádrogüese food culture.

Art/Music

Again, since the nation is an archipelago, the people are naturally inclined to seafaring. Boats play a part in trade and culture and always have done. Much art in Pádrogüe features seascapes and beaches. Pádrogüese music often features guitars, drums, piano, and a stringed instrument called a Fadal, similar to a fiddle. The national dance, the Opar, originated as a ritual to calm the sea for good fishing. It is done to a traditional piece played with three Fadals and a guitar. It is preformed by a ring of alternating men and women.

Languages

Padrogüés

Padrogüés is the principal language. It shares roots with Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Catalan. Each province has its own dialect of Padrogüés, but they are all very alike. There are 25 letters (there is no W), and 6 diacritical marks used to demonstrate inflection: à (grava), á (acuta), â (kapa), ã (tilde), ä (diarsis), and ç (represents a soft c, pronounced /th/). The syntax is similar to other Romance languages. For more information, visit Padrogüés.

Eriadek

Eriadek is an anomaly language. It is the language of the province Erriade, and appears to have no links to any other language on Earth. It has 19 letters (a, b, d, e, g, h, i, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, z) and no diacritical marks. The syntax is similar to English, except prepositions become prefixes when applied to proper nouns, and adjectives are used as suffixes in most cases. Visit Eriadek for more information.

History

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">palacio.jpg
The Royal Palace in Adrián
</div>

Before 1860, the islands of Pádrogüe were controlled by a range of kingdoms in the Pádrogüe archipelago, among them the Kingdom of Orque and the Kingdom of Erriaduur (Erriaduurazkaati). In 1843, Juan Ricadro Alvares, a native of Port Adrià (renamed Adrián), in Orque decided that the constant wars between the kingdoms had gone on long enough. He gathered many supporters for his vision of one, unified nation. He eventually convinced the kings of the monarchies that a unified nation would be a good alternative to almost constant wars. And so, Pádrogüe was founded on August 1, 1860. The city of Barandon, in Amatagüe, was originally the capital, until it was moved to Adrián in 1871. The royal capital was always Adrián. The constitution was drafted in Adrián at that time to finalise the unification process. The first several prime ministers brought Pádrogüe prosperity. However, from 1912 to 1977 Pádrogüe was gripped by a militaristic dictatorship under Generalisimo Estevan Alvoro that disallowed foreign relations and visitors. Only recently, thanks to the intervention of the enormously popular King Jaumè II, has Pádrogüe entered into the global market. The constitution, once banned, was brought back and amended to prevent a re-occurance.

Government

The government is a multi-party constitutional monarchy with one legistlative body, the Audiençi Naçionâ. The constitution bans all single-party elections and eliminations of government entities without approval to prevent another dictatorship. The Prime Minister is Juan Mayo, and the king is Rei Jaumè II. The national defence spending is 1.5% of the GDP (see Economy, below), and the military size is 400,000. The military is not a priority for the citizens, who are generally pacifistic, preferring to remain neutral during times of strife. The nation is divided into 250 regional districts (such as Adrián Est or Isla Mencara). Each district's size depends on its population, and each district elects one representative to the Audiençi Naçionâ. The main political parties are PL (Liberal Party), PC (Conservative Party), PD (Democratic Party), EB (Bloc Eriadek), PSN (National Socialist Party), and PV (Green Party). The current prime minister, Juan Mayo, is of the PD party.

Economy

The national currency is the juro (J̸), valued at €1.00. The gross domestic product (GDP) is €1032.4 billion. Per capita, it is €19,280. 70% of the economy is services, 22% is industry, and 8% is agriculture. Major crops include wheat, corn, potatoes, canola, and grapes. Major livestock include cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats. Pádrogüe's extensive natural resources include iron, copper ore, aluminum ore, oil, and zinc. The government owns most of the mineral deposits, but some of them are private. All agriculture is private, but the government provides some subsidies to organic farmers. The current inflation rate is 2%, and the unemployment rate is 3.3%. The government provides bonuses to young workers to promote employment. The taxes, when compared with the rest of Europe, are medium-high. The population occasionaly complains about the tax rate, but it pays off in the myriad of public goods the government offers. 70% of the economy is services, including tourism. 12% is agriculture, and 18% is government. As Pádrogüe is a member of the UPHH, its government this year adopted El Bolivar (฿) as a secondary currency for use within the UPHH only.

The Flag

<div" class="plainlinksneverexpand">labradorflag.gif

On Pádrogüe's flag, the blue symbolises the island nature of the country, indicating that it is surrounded by water. The green symbolises the lush forests, of which Pádrogüe is very proud. The white symbolises the population, and the Pine Branch is the national symbol.
