Islay Major is the largest of the Islayian Planets located in Sector C-7.

History

It was discovered in 2145 by Mark Williams after his probe the Mayan Voyager crashed on it's surface. The data sent back to New Cardiff showed that the planet was habitable and close enough to be moved to during a human lifetime. The Creylon was the first ever human voyage to it's surface in 2190. It was succesful and in the following 100 years many more spacecraft landed. In 2239 a human colony was set up on the Newydd Coast and ever since it has grown to cover the globe. Now the planet is inhabited by a population of almost 3 billion people which have moved to it's continents and spread across the globe. In the 2nd Millenia (3650) the planet was divided up into nations. Although each govern most of their own areas, the United Islay Government are in charge of global issues.

Geography

Most of the planet is covered in lush green forests and stunning mountain ranges. Only a small amount is actually developed and this is mainly on the coast or close to a water source.

Climate and Atmosphere

The planet has an atmosphere very similar, if not slightly thinner, than that of earth. Recent studies have shown that small amounts of Iodine in the outer atmosphere create a blue tinge on the horizon. The planet's climate is also quite similar, although colder than earth's. The poles do not reach such extremes as those on earth due to the tilt of the planet. Average temperature on the Equator is artound 25c and on the poles it is around 5c.

Moons

Islay Major has one moon which is around a quater of the size of the planet. It is known as Jura and has not yet been explored by the inhabitants of the planet.
