Iuthia is a large nation based in the Urbanites region of the world. Run by the mostly benevolent dictator Lord General James deGritz, Iuthia's society is mostly based around military command structure with discipline being a virtue and compulsory military service for 'citizens'. However, despite the compulsory service potentially providing the military with a substantial pool of conscripts, the service isn't actually designed to use these extra recruits and generally prefers to use a armed for composed of career military men and women in its affairs. This suggests to many that Iuthia's military service is more of a social engineering project designed to indoctrinate it's citizens then a way of bolstering it's military capability.

Iuthia is a signatory to the KIST treaty.

Background

Currently classified as a Libertarian Police State by the UN, Iuthia has never really gotten along with the United Nations, prefering to leave it be and keeping our distance so not to be restricted by it's poorly concieved policies. Like many of it's allies, the benevolent dictatorship prefers to keep to itself.

Iuthia is among the top 2000 for defence forces in NationStates and has a very large military budget set aside, typically because the Iuthian Military is responcible for more then just the defence of the nation, but also the emergancy services and other minor efforts. Due to their compulsory military services, which helps define an adult from an adolescent, you don't receive your full rights in Iuthia until you have served your time for your country, supposedly promoting nationalism and the 'proper' attitude for each and every 'citizen'.

However, with this forced responsibility each citizen gains some of the best civil freedoms in the world of NationStates; Iuthia has very open laws in regards to recreational drug use, prostitution and public nudity. Citizens are basically allowed to do practically anything within reason with laws being more protective then resistrictive. Drug laws are designed to assure quality and proper labelling/warning, prostitution is regulated so as to assure health and proper working conditions and nudity perfectly normal to many. That said, however, Iuthia has strict laws against 'civilians' owning firearms with such weapons staying strictly in the realms of the military and it's emergancy services. It can also be said that the Iuthian government has been known to watch those whom are concidered a threat to the government, though it maintains that any action must be justified with proof of the intent to commit crime.

Which is the next point, Iuthia is ruled by a single person, who then chooses other people to help him run the country. This man is currently James deGritz, with the official title of Lord General. He may fire and hire people as he pleases and generally he does. His rule is considered to be benevolent by most of the populace, whether this is down to apathy or a general love for the guy is unknown, but the majority seem to like him for his stable politics and strong character. That isn't to say there aren't those who openly disagree with his methods, some of which are even in the military command structure itself.

Society

Iuthia's societal structure is highly based around that of the military, with the military being the most heavily funded organisation in Iuthia it has managed to leak into the very mindset of the people themselves and as such it has effected the very lifestlye of the average Iuthian, from daily excerise to a somewhat awkward mild xenophobia aimed at outsiders whom aren't 'citizens'.

Crimes are rare thanks to the strong inbred respect for authority, though they are not completely non-existant. Organised crime is incredably subtle in Iuthia, using the governments corrupt lower levels to bribe officials to turn a blind eye to various activities. With weapons being highly illegal and carrying heavy sentances it's rare such a criminal would be caught using one unless they really, really needed to.

Another example is Iuthia's health system, though the budget put into the health service isn't very much (it's mainly private with free emergency services) you will find Iuthian people to be rather fit, thanks to their mind set. Much has been done to the point where they all know how to stay in shape and are encouraged not to eat anything too bad for them, of course, real luxuries such as rich chocolate and personal cars are rare, but thats besides the point.

The Iuthian people are also very unimaginative on the whole, they can imagine certain things, but their art generally doesn't get weird and joyful... it looks like what it is supposed to be. The book industry in Iuthia is booming, but it's all Tom Clancy rip offs, all about brave soldiers and war like scenarios... they sell well but they don't have much room to change.

While drugs are perfectly legal they are not something that creates a menace to the Iuthian society as each of them are responsible enough not to do anything too bad with them, again this is due to the social mind set which has damaged their sense of humour, making it warped to that of a normal person.

Iuthia is a very open place to live once you have become a citizen, which is why there are many religions and races living within Iuthia. Mostly Iuthia is made up of humans, but there are Elves, half Elves, dark Elves, Dwarves, Hobbits and the most notable... Clangers. However all of them are outnumbered by Humans, who make up 93% of the populace.

The religious states are: Agnostic (75%, most), Buddhist (10%, 2nd most) followed by the rest... which can be anything.

On the whole the Iuthian people are very happy with their lives, even the UN has agreed with me on this one by put Iuthia 419th in the world for the most happiest people. As such the approval rating for James deGritz is very high, though a small percentage are not convinced.

Emergency Services

These are all run by the military so that they could be made as efficient as possible, it also allows your compulsory military service to be held in a none-combat role... the most notable of the three services are the Peace Keepers who serves as the Iuthian police, they are trained in none lethal methods of capturing criminals should they be found but they generally just patrol the streets making sure that everything is running smoothly... they also serve as guards and security forces for various buildings.

Another institution run by the military is the orphanages, which take the allows the military to raise children into the best possible roll for them, however once the child reaches 16 they are back to being a free citizen... they are offered the same protections that all children are, only they are parented by specialists from the military. They are often the worst of Iuthian citizens hit by institutionalisation.

Education

Education is not run by the military in Iuthia, despite what the experts in say should happen. Instead education is run separately of the military and instead using methods that the military may use to teach their troops.

Basically the schools of Iuthia are run very much like that of England, you have primary education given to children from the age of 6 to 11 which concentrates on the basics they will need for Secondary Education: Math Skills, English Skills as well as others like Information Technology, Science, History and Morals. Discipline is a key factor here; however it is often a moot point as Iuthian parents teach discipline at a young age.

Then there is Secondary Education which provides the skills they will need in life, here they will stay in school from the age of 12 to 16. They will the more advanced part of what they learned in Primary Education, however they will also be taught additional lesions they may choose from. After the age of 16 they take their final tests along with results of course work and then they are given qualifications which may be used for more education and/or employment.

Further Education may be taught and is generally done for free up to the age of 18; this includes something of a basic 6 Form or College. They may also join the military at this age, which always provides free education. Most students take free education with the state and then use the military for further advancement without the cost.

In all cases except the military, students go home to parents to live with them at the end of the day... weekends are free except in the case where extra education is needed.

Structures and Building Information

Most Iuthian building as built with durability being the most important issue, in most cases they are made earthquake resistant and are often made to withstand large amounts of damage.

This has resulted in something of ugly concrete jungles for cities; important building and facilities are protected with air defence and a small garrison of troops, for example: Air Ports.

Smaller buildings are made to last, but will rarely survive large amounts of damage... mainly they are made out of brick and stone so they don't burn easy.

Iuthia has a large amount of bunker complexes so that they can evacuate their people in the case of heavy bombing, but some have been recently converted into underground travel stations, using mag-trains and the such.

I will cover more when I have more information about what I can do, but Iuthia is very careful with it's defences.

Environment

Iuthia is a relatively warm nation, some areas are so warm they have become plains with little in the way of grass or water... however Iuthia doesn't have any deserts.

Environmental damage, logging and mining Uranium has damaged a lot of Iuthia’s forests and nature, most of the dangerous wildlife has either been killed off or has retreated in to the deeper forests, only a few forests haven't been searched, a couple of which are considered to be rain forests... but they are rare and mostly unsearched due to their mass. Recently some of them have become protected due to the few forests left in Iuthia, only time can tell how long these places have.

Iuthia has a lot of beaches, but only a few of them are up good enough to attract tourists, mostly they are pebble beaches with some environmental damage, but they are all at least good enough for the people, just a few of them have retained their good looks.

Tourism

Watch.jpg

Should you wish to enter Iuthia you will find out that you don't actually have all that many freedoms, you are free to a lot of the things the population do in Iuthia, for example taking drugs... but you are not guaranteed your right to privacy, this is because the security services don't trust tourists much as they are not trusted citizens... so any privacy you have can be removed if you do not make sure to follow the rules, which are listed on your flight into Iuthia.

Actually getting to Iuthia is tricky, as we do not allow planes from nations not on the "Trusted" list to fly near our cities, to get a flight to Iuthia you have to divert from a trusted nation.

Most tourism is down to the fact all drugs are legal in Iuthia, you are also permitted to be naked on the streets providing you don't engage (or try to engage) in sexual intercourse. The people of Iuthia are the 419th happiest people in NationStates so you will also find the place to be quite agreeable.

However, you may be watched by the security forces if you act suspiciously within our nation. Checks at all entrances of the nation are mandatory and very thorough, weapons are banned in Iuthia and you will not be able to smuggle them in if you are going the tourist route. Other substances are banned, but I will not detail all of them here, they are mainly spy devices and are usually obvious when seen.

We have a good looking capitol, though it is pretty well built up and fortified... so it depends on what you think looks good, we like it but you may not.

As a tourist you only need the normal passports if you are visiting (total of six weeks only) and with permission for longer stays. You will be required to tell authorities where you are staying, which is then checked up upon, each hotel will require you to check in and out when you leave and enter.

Border Security

All areas around the borders of Iuthia are well patrolled, however this is less so around some nations and more so around others... for example the safer the nation the less patrols we will make. This is only relevant if you try to cross the border on foot, some area's will be harder to patrol and are easier to get into... however you would have to find these out IC and not just automatically go to them without some find of map or something.

The sea is more carefully patrolled by patrol boats, navy and submarines then other nations may permit... Iuthia doesn't like the idea of someone sneaking a submarine into their waters so it's more then likely we'll find you this way then any other.

Also being used in a passive sense is the Iuthian NAFDA system, which is more designed for anti-ICBM use but is also designed to be able to detect stealth craft and maybe submarines, though the latter hasn't fully been tested.
