Jennington is a major industrial and communications centre located in the Maanenic Midlands. The city itself has a population of 180,000 with 5.8 million people living in the surrounding conurbation making it the nations largest sixth largest city.

As well as it's industrial heritage Jennington has had a major influence on arts and the cultural fabric of Maanenland. People from Jennington are called Jenningtonians although the term Jenner is more commonly used.

    History

Jennington was settled by Dutch settlers around 600BC for it's strategic position being at the time the only crossing place on the River Dycan from the sea to the city of Glassford 70 miles to the east of the city.

The market at the centre of the city at Chipping Jennner became a major trading post and a common flashpoint for the armies of the north and south during the Maanenic Civil War where the most bitter fighting was fought. The lasting legacy of this conflict was the major garrisons of the Royal Maanenland Army throughout the city which still exist today.

Arrival of Flemish merchants in the 17th century saw a rise in cotton production for which the city became famous during the industrial revolution.

During this time the Port of Jennington developed rapidly which spurred the futher economic development of the industrial northbank where the chemical industry developed which resulted in crippling smogs across the city.

The industrial northbank however declined during the 1970s which left a largley abandoned industrial wasteland with many of it's residences reporting up to 20% unemployment which inspried a great deal of artists of the 1970s and early 1980s most notably The Horns.

Northbank saw something of a revival during the 1990s following the redevelopment of the port area , the opening of a new airport and greater transport links to the financial centre of the southbank and the opening of the Univeristy of Technology and Industry in Jennington.
