Recent Events in Jervis Bay

January 18, 2005: Jervis Bay celebrates the election to the position of Regional Affairs Minister of the region of Australia. The nation as a whole is now charged with the responsibility of maintaining peace and stability between member nations, and encouraging new nations to join the region.

October 23, 2004: Due to the passing of UN Resolution #78 "Repeal "Fight the Axis of Evil"", the citizens of Jervis Bay voted overwhelmingly in favour of entry into the United Nations. Previously, Jervis Bay had been strongly opposed to UN entry as a result of Resolution #1 "Fight The Axis of Evil", as the policy ran contrary to the anti-military stance taken by the citizens of Jervis Bay. Jervis Bay is now a fully fledged member of the UN, though it has no desire to make any attempt at achieving regional delegate status at this time.

History

According to popular legend, the nation of Jervis Bay was founded during a turbulent period in the region of Australia, when a young student arrived from foreign shores to finish his studies. Appalled by the political situation, where people vied for leadership positions purely for personal glory, he set about organising a political party that existed outside of the chaos of the original system. Based on the belief that education and knowledge were sources of power that everybody could equally share, the movement grew until it finally gained a political majority. In a controversial move, the student, whose name is not known to this day, laid down the founding constitution for Jervis Bay, and in following it, abdicated the presidential position immediately. He then disappeared into obscurity or exile, leaving the people of the nation to take a direct role in governance.

Since then, the nation of Jervis Bay has grown into a massive nation, and despite early issues with economic collapse, and the brief but violent secession of Nowra, the nation looks set for development into a centre of intellectualism and research, whilst providing excellent quality of life for its citizens.
