Dr Joseph James Edwards is the current incumbent Prime Minister of Rolatia and leader of the ruling Liberal Socialist party in the country. Born 22nd October 1972, he was found to be highly intelligent early on. He was chosen for the highly selective Olavian Grammar School in southern Redmofo, and was very successful, gaining many qualifications before going to Larai University and getting a degree in Computer Science.

Edwards entered into mainstream politics in early 1998, aged just 24. He had managed to gain experience at university, where he had been a key figure in the opposition Democratic Socialist group on the university parliament. He decided to join up with the Democratic Socialists, and won a seat after polling first of the Democratic Socialists in Redmofo Oprongiton, who secured just 9.2% of the vote compared to 51.5% for the Conservatives and 36.3% for the Liberals but managed to take the first of two wild card seats.

He quickly became an influential figure in the Democratic Socialists. He took the post of Shadow Minister for Education in 2000. Following the resignation of old leader Steven Coprest, he took the helm in 2001. After steering the party to forcing a hung parliament in 2003, leaving the Democratic Socialists on double their previous seats, he steered them to a 2004 victory in which a Democratic Socialist-Liberal coalition lead. The 2005 election saw him take lead of the newly united Liberal Socialism party, in which he took a slender majority. He is now a very popular figure in Rolatia, and has lead the country to incredible economic success, a far cry from the various conservative and old-style liberal warnings.

Mr. Edwards has come under attack in recent months from many left-wing organizations over his somewhat conservative views in many areas. He holds moderate conservative views on the monarchy and grammar schools in particular, which has led to leading Worker's Party MPs among others disowning him of sorts. He also holds liberal views on free-trade economics in particular, angering the hard-line tariff groups. There is much speculation that a walk-out by leading MPs is imminent.
