Juan Santiago, along with Michalis Mitrofanis, was one of the select few who actually won an international tournament before winning the 14th Under-21 World Cup. With Right-sided midfielders Nick Matranga, Geraint Evans and Ryan Kovac all away in Cockbill Street and Lethislavania trying to win World Cup 21, the Starblaydi AOCAF Squad was bereft of wide midfielders.
Resorting to two left-sided players in the starting line-up (Nelson de Montford and Jose Tirado to play as left- and right-wingers, 15 year-old Juan and 31 year-old wing-back Rigoberto were called up to the Starblaydi squad for the 7th Atlantian Oceania Cup of Association Football. Though Juan didn't play in the tournament, he walked away with Winner's medal at an age where he couldn't even smoke cigarettes legally.
