K'an

The original language spoken in the region now known as Gendara. It is noted for being a syllabic-construction language, capable of conveying complicated concepts in single (albeit long) words.

This is accomplished by taking shorter words, and combining them. Thus, Sarn'alaeth (the K'an word meaning "Heart of Fire") is a combination of the words sarn ("fire") and laeth ("heart"), with 'a serving as a connector ("of").

The name of this language itself - K'an - can be broken down into two words, Ki (shortened to K') and an, which means moon-speech.

While K'an was certainly still in limited use during the Wars of Ascendancy period, it has since become more and more archaic - there are few who can still construct a useful word out of its syntactic vocabulary. No evidence has ever been discovered to imply that K'an had a written-language component. Thus, little exists of this language other than various place-names and a few other words.
