Kahanistan Imperial Marines

The Kahanistan Imperial Marines are oddly named, given that Kahanistan is not and never has been an Empire or had an Emperor. They are the offensive ground forces of the Soviet Republic. They form 20% of the military of Kahanistan.

Training and doctrine

Basic training is identical to that of the Kahanistan Republic Guard. Their missions diverge radically, however; while the Republic Guard, with the exception of the Air Force, is a defensive military force and logistical support force, the Imperial Marines are an offensive ground force, dedicated to defense of allies, conducting invasions and occupations (the "Imperial" part of the name) and amphibious assaults and shipboard security (the "Marine" part of the name.)

The sole difference in training from the Republic Guard exists in the officer corps; Republic Guard officers tend to be more professional and disciplined, while Imperial Marine officers are more aggressive. However, combat experience among enlisted in the two branches is radically different, with almost all Imperial Marines experiencing combat, compared to some five percent of the Republic Guard. (The RG provides a substantial majority of logistics for the Imperial Marines, though some deployments call for naval replenishment and resupply.) However, some Imperial Marine commanders, such as Colonel Rachel C. Levitt at the Battle of Xigrat, are primarily logistics officers. Logistics marines are usually those who have been disciplined in some manner or are unpopular with their superiors.

Weapons of the Imperial Marines are almost any land weapon in the Republic Guard's arsenal, and the listing is thus not repeated here.

Ranks of the Imperial Marines

Note most of the ranks are identical to the ranks of the Republic Guard.

Officer ranks

Officer rank insignia is identical to corresponding Republic Guard officer insignia. However, the responsibilities of an officer in the Imperial Marines differ significantly from those of an officer in the Republic Guard.

General of the Imperial Marines - Five stars in a pentagonal formation. Can command more than one corps in battle.

General - **** Commands a corps, in other words, two divisions of 25,000 Marines each, or 50,000 Marines. Eligible for appointment as Defense Minister.

Lieutenant General - *** Commands a division of 25,000 Marines.

Major General - ** Commands larger military bases.

Brigadier General - * Commands a brigade, 5,000 Marines.

First Lieutenant - One silver bar. Lowest ranked instructor in Marine training.

Second Lieutenant - One gold bar. Scum of the scum of officers in the Imperial Marines.

Enlisted ranks

Similar to those of the Republic Guard, except the highest ranked enlisted Marine is the Sergeant Major of the Imperial Marines. His or her rank insignia looks like this. <<<*IM))). All other enlisted insignias are the same as the corresponding Republic Guard insignias, but some of the rank titles are different:

Imperial Marine rank = Republic Guard rank*

Sergeant Major of the Imperial Marines = Sergeant Major of the Republic Guard

Sergeant Major

Master Gunnery Sergeant = Master Sergeant

Gunnery Sergeant = Sergeant First Class

Staff Sergeant

Lance Corporal = Private First Class

Private First Class = Private

  • The following ranks are the same in the Republic Guard and Imperial Marines: Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant Major.
