Kannada is a south Indian language belonging to the Dravidian family. But some of the mst ancient words of Kannada have originated from the Prakrit language. as an independent language, it dates back to the 9th century A.D. It has rich literary and cultural traditions. The kannada speaking people are mainly found between the Kaveri and Godavari rivers(the region is called Karnataka)in the South of India.

Kannada is the state language of Aryadesha with 91% of the people having Kannada as their mother tongue.
