George Getson crowned himself King George I. King George I united all of the tribes. After his mysterious death, he was replaced by King George II, his son. The monarchy lasted for about 20 years and was replaced peacefully by a republic, as King George IV decided to abdicate his throne. The republic was more democratic. Life was peaceful then. This lasted only 2 years. In 1963 Kerla become a dictatorship with Jefferson Davidson taking over, with the message that he knew what was best for Kerla. He curtailed all civil liberties. He also controlled the media. In 1976 the United Front for Democracy and Socialism staged a very successful rebellion led by Robert Brown. Brown was a general in the Kerlan Republican Army.
