The Royal Crown Colony of the King John Islands belongs to the United Kingdom and consists of five islands in the King John Archipelago located off the eastern coast of Irathria. Founded in 2006 it boasts only a small population of 534 individuals, most of whom are military personnel aiding in the construction of the first town and first naval base at the capital of Cape St. George.

History

Prior to 2006 the island had been uninhabited by homo sapiens and the only events of consequence are of geological concern. The island chain arose through volcanic processes and are a distinct and unique feature off the continental plate of Irathria. Shortly before UK colonization of the western five isles the nation of Asbena founded its own offshore colonies on the eastern isles as a trading post. Current plans for the United Kingdom involve developing Cape St. George into a thriving tourist community with basing facilities for Royal Navy, Air Force, and Marine units who will ensure the continent’s bottleneck strait remains open to all nations.

Geography

Consisting of five volcanic islands, the colony features a fertile, although shallow depth, soil as well as running rivers from the orthographic precipitation occurring as the warm, moist breezes from the south strike the volcanoes and their high elevations. The primary concerns for the islands are volcanic activity, earthquakes, tsunamis, and typhoons.

Politics

Executive power within the colony remains vested in the King though it is exercised by the Royal Governor of the King John Islands, who is appointed by the King at the advisement of Parliament. Due to this relationship matters of foreign policy and defence are handled by the United Kingdom. The current Royal Governor is Rear Admiral Gregory Jefferson.

Economy

As the colony has yet to take actual form, most economic activity centres on construction – specifically of the Cape St. George Naval Base and the eponymous town. However, in the future likely industries to develop will be that of agriculture, harvesting the native wild form of sugar cane as well as a fruit now called the Cape George Mango. Once a significant infrastructure has been established it is likely that the warm climate and liberal policies of the United Kingdom will draw in foreign and domestic tourists.

Transportation

With the colony still developing transportation is exceedingly difficult and the main airport consists of a deployed Royal Navy assault ship and the main port of pre-assembled military unloading piers. All civilians wishing to emigrate to the colony must do so by means of Royal Navy transports. The situation of under-developed transport infrastructure is unlikely to change significantly in the coming years.
