Olav was crown as king by his younger brother, Inge the Wise, after their fathers death in 1243. Olav was the first Christian king of Skatval, but wasn't so lucky as his father during his period as king: Skatval was attacked several times in the areas along the north-eastern borders, but Olav managed them all, and Skatval remained independent.

Olav built up a strong realationship to other mighty ancestries in Skatval, and The Fljoðars became the nearest ally. Olav learned many languages, and was very intelligent. He spoke Old Norse, Trøndersk, Norwegian, Swedish and German, and studied subjects like geography, religion and politics.

Olav died sometime during the autumn of 1279, after a short period of illness.
