King and Queens of Zedoljev

Following the Zedoljan War of Succession, only one of the former Houses, or Dynasties, that dominated the area still existed. That was the matriarchal House of Uchenitsa, of Maryavostok. The head of the House, Elanor, proclaimed herself to be Queen of all the territory she now commanded, almost by default. She herself had an extremely powerful army in the Asseniya that solidified her position however. She declared her new Queendom "Zedoljev", a contemporary spelling of the Urallian name "Zedoliev", as it encompassed a large area of what was once called Zedoliev by Elanor's ancestors, the Urallians, effectively creating the modern state. She then thusly proclaimed herself "Queen Elanor I of Zedoljev" and became the first proper monarch of Zedoljev. However, as the House of Uchenitsa was matriarchal, so was Zedoljev, and the political and governmental system worked very differently - but work it did, as Elanor had the complete loyalty of the fearsome Asseniya cavalry - ironically all women. However this was not to last as by 822(STS) the House of Uchenitsa had run out of female heirs, and the son of the former Queen siezed power himself, quickly reorganising the country into a more stable, traditional and normal patriachal society, becoming King - or Tsar - Dmitri I of Zedoljev. This action would not sit well with the Asseniya however, and by the time Dmitri's great-grandson ruled Zedoljev, the Asseniya would abandon all loyalties to Uchenitsa, which left the position of the House very weak. Indeed, by 1046, Uchenitsa's rule over Zedoljev was overthrown by a Baron who ran Zendivostok. He claimed the thrown for himself and became King Rikat II of Zedoljev. However, his own leadership was not sound, and this led to a civil uprising which resulted in the King being deposed for almost four years between 1076 and 1080. However, Rikat was able to take back the thrown.

In 1585, King Andrei V was murdered and his Parliament claimed control of Zedoljev, making the country a Commonwealth. However, this only lasted until 1591 when it was clear that the people only really respected a King - thought they didn't need to like him - and they asked Andrei's cousin, Prince Aleksander Grishenko to become Tsar. He became Aleksandr III of Zedoljev, though it marked a new chapter where the Parliament had a much greater say over what the Tsar did. It was hoped that this would stop the Tsar from becoming too arrogant - like some of the previous had been, but this would not suffice as by 1817, after a series of revolutions, the Tsar, and indeed the entire monarchy, was overthrown, and replaced by a Presidential Republic. What was left of the Zedoljan Royal family fled to New Cyberia, where it has remained since, though long since giving up claim to the throne of Zedoljev.
