In the past, Knootian intelligence had a reputation of being severely underfunded, understaffed and undertrained. However, lately funding to these agencies has increased making them marginally more effective. Still, Knootian intelligence agencies are smaller then those agencies in most militaristic nations even if they have acces to high-tech equipment. Usually, Knootians have to rely on foreign intelligence sources. There are three Knootian intelligence agencies:

Algemene Inlichtingen en Veiligheids Dienst (AIVD)

The name is Dutch for “General Intelligence and Security service”, the AIVD is the main intelligence agency of Knootoss. It reports directly to the Prime Minister. In the past, the AIVD reported to the minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence but this was changed under the Prime Minister of Galadriël Táralóm nos Círdan

Militaire Inlichtingen en Veiligheids Dienst (MIVD)

The name is Dutch for “Military Intelligence and Security service”, the MIVD is the Knootian version of Military Intelligence. It reports directly to the ministry of Foreign Affairs and Defence and to the Commander in Chief of the Knootian Defence Force.

Economische Inlichtingen en Veiligheids Dienst (EIVD)

The name is Dutch for “Economic Intelligence and Security service”, the EIVD is a relatively new agency was started only a few years ago by the ministry of Economic Affairs so it would have its own sources of specific intelligence information. It reports directly to the minister of Economic Affairs Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst. Critics have accused Economic Affairs to use the EIVD in its rivalry with the Foreign Affairs ministry, also embodied in separate Knootian embassies and consulates funded by Economic Affairs. These critics argue that the EIVD should either coordinate its activities more with the other intelligence agencies or that it should fall under the responsibilities of the AIVD.
