Kolaxa

Kolaxa is a Kiravian colony in Forest.

Recent Events

On February 21st, 2007, Kolaxa was assailed by a force of Moderators. Kolaxa's MACAW units and the Kiravian Imperial Military were unable to defeat the invaders. Kolaxa's eastern region is undergoing mass depopulation via human export, and interior rainforest cities are defunct, cut off from their supply lines. A remanent of the once-proud Kolaxa remains on the Western Highlands as Neo-Kolaxa.

As of March 22nd, 2007, The Imperial Military has purged the last remaining moderator from Kolaxa. Neo-Kolaxa has been re-incorporated as a special administrative district.

History

Kiravians and Kirverdans landed their colonies in Kolaxa at roughly the same time. The original colonists were arboriculturalists, arbologists, botanists, and other scientients as well as laborers with which they wished to start new companies in Forest. Less recognized arrivals were Kirverdan outlaws and petty criminals wishing for new lives away from scrutiny. The first colonies grew into large, eco-sensitive cities, looking like natural formations of rock and metal in the vast verdant forests.

Civilography

As with all Cosciv-based societies, all of the populous live in some sort of settlement, rather than in a "rural" area. A minority of Kolaxans live in cities, while most live in small to medium sized communities in the forests, like Ibaro.

Economy

Kolaxa's relatively small population benefits from a service-based economy. Major industries include Arboriculture, Botanichemicals, Information Services, Enviornmental Technology, and Pharmicuticals. The industries are Plant-based, mainly on FOrest trees, so commercial forestry is banned.(With the exception of low-income Jalornans. They are permitted to practice forestry on a subsistance level.)

The Jalornan Issue

While Kolaxa has, for the most part, escaped political trouble, the government constantly faces an issue concerning the Jalornan populus. Jalornans came to Kolaxa from Kirverda, wishing to work on mining operations in the Kolaxan interior. When these failed, Jalornans could no longer afford to live in Kolaxa's cities and towns. They retreated into the dense forest, and dissappeared from notice for 30 years. During these thirty years, they multiplied and became so impoverished that portions of the community were socilogically reduced to a tribal level. The Jalornans remain unaccounted and unmanaged, sometimes attacking forest villages occupied by Cosciv Kolaxans.
