The Commonwealth of Konoha is a province in Kelssek. The name derives from Konohasanmo in the language of the indigenous First Nations who lived in the region, meaning "foliage mountain range", an appropriate description of the heavily forested mountains which characterise the geography of the region. Famed for its natural beauty, it is a major destination for ecotourism and wintersports.

Geography

The province is centred around Lake Konoha, the largest body of water in Kelssek, with the area around the lake called the Lakeland and the area around it generally referred to as the "interior". The provincial capital Kingston is located on the north end of the lake, and largest city Burnaby is located on the southeastern shore. The Haligonia river feeds the lake at a point about 60km west of Kingston, and drains it just south of downtown Burnaby, which lies between False Creek, a small inlet, and the river.

Economy

Resources, from forestry and mining, as well as tourism are the most important industries in the province, although highly diversified secondary and tertiary industries are centred in the urban areas such as Burnaby and Penticton.

Politics

The legislature of Konoha is known as the Legislative Assembly of Konoha and the current Premier is Dawn Black of the Konoha Social Democratic Party. The province is unique in that it is the only jurisdiction in Kelssek as of April 2007 which uses a proportional representation system; although the federal government is expected to introduce a similar system for the next federal elections. The number of seats in the unicameral assembly is fixed at 99.
