Overview

Background

The People's Republic of Kundu is a federal quasi-socialist democratic republic located in the southeastern part of Amore Island in the Region of Gay. The People's Republic of Kundu is a massive, economically powerful nation. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population is ruled by a benevolent quasi-dictator of a president who has not faced an election in almost 7 years. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law and Order, and Education. The average income tax varies based on income, but can reach almost 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Automobile Manufacturing Industry; however this may soon change with the abolishment of all tariffs.

Voting in the People's Republic is voluntary and the citizens are free to live their lives while the government watches for anyone to slip up. Major cities in the People's Republic are suffering under water rationing and government-run screening operations remove embryos that have severe genetic disorders. Crime is totally unknown thanks to the all pervasive Kundanese National Police, as well as progressive polices in both welfare and education. Kundu's national animal is the dodo bird, which is currently teetering on extinction due to widespread deforestation but government programs are working to change this.

The national government is made up of three branches, the executive, the legislative, and the judicial. The executive branch is responsible for the discharging and enforcement of the laws, as well as the day-to-day operations of the national government. The legislative branch is responsible for enacting the laws of the People's Republic and also has the power of the purse, while the judicial branch is responsible for maintaining equality in the rule of law. The People's Republic is also broken into 27 provinces which are responsible for local civil authority as well as social functions such as heath care, housing, education, utilities and local judicial power.

History

Over its history, the People's Republic has existed as several different entities. Primarily during this time, the areas that are now the provinces of the republic were the only government the area knew. These provinces were able to only provide a limited amount of infrastructure to the area. Worse, the area was prone to frequent invasion from external entities. With the national convention that met in 1816, a new government was formed, much of which is still in existence today.:
