Lama Dorji Chengho is the religious leader recognised by most members of Ariddia's tiny Buddhist community. Fewer than 0.05% of Ariddians are thought to be Buddhists (there are no official statistics), but Lama Dorji is one of the country's best-known religious figures (along with Roman Catholic Archbishop Fernand Beauval).

Lama Dorji was born and raised in Ariddia, and his parents are also Ariddian-born. Educated at the University of Espérence, he obtained a degree in sociology and a Master's degree in physics. Although his fellow Ariddians are predominantly atheists, he has earned national respect as an active proponent of peace, mutual understanding and compassion towards all other living beings.
