Background

The Grand Imperial Autocratic Duchy of Landingberg, an ancient land that has been lived on since around 2157 B.C. has always had a unique and colorful history. Many people have marveled at how though it is a Czarist government, the nation and its people can stay so free and happy with the Imperial Family. Although there have been a few dents in it’s history no great civilization can have a truly great history without a few bad times in between the good times.

History, Ancient Landingberg

Around 2,157 years before the birth of Christ, people settled the area now known as Northern Landingberg. They called themselves Mvyir or in there language, {Mvyirish}, it means People of the Suns. They built a civilization now known as The Great Empire of Reshtori. Reshtori in there language simply means Land of the rising suns. It’s capital was located close to present day Juneopa, it was called Trejmeenrau, meaning Stars of the night. They built a Nation spanning from about 100 miles south of the present day northern border, down 200 miles past Ash Lake, East to the present day border and West 300 miles over the present border. But this was at the hay day of the Empire. It was ruled by a Priest. They called the Priest an Archinephra. Which simply means high priest. Though it was in theory a theocracy the Archinephra’s were put on the throne by way of succession. So often the High Priests weren’t all that religious. In fact during the reign of Archinephra Xxophelyan II, when the Empire lost about 600 square miles of land, around 135 AD, Reshtori was known for it’s vice other than for its theocracy. Slowly but surely the Archinephra’s lost there power and influence, and around the year 1275 AD due to War, instability in the government and loss for respect of the Archinephra’s they lost all power. So the Mvyirians became divided into small tribes that spanned the once mighty empire. Not until 1517 did the area ever again receive any form of real government other than tribal laws. Over the years the area remained docile and more or less nothing interesting happened. Other than The Twelve Years War that was in between the settlers near the Mvyir tribes and the Mvyirians. It lasted from 1416-1428 therefore the reason for the war’s name. After this everything settled down and the Mvyirians quickly became friends with the quick growing populace of settlers.

History 1517-1719

By the year 1517 there was hostility yet again in Landingberg. The extremely rich Mr. Leopold Vederig took over the area. He named the area The Grand Dictatorship Monarchy of Landingberg. This was the first time that the land was called by this name. He ruled for two horrible years. It is unknown as to how many people he killed during his two year reign. But the number is estimated at about 20,000,000 people. Both his people and foreigners. During his reign he did many atrocious things. The worst of which has become known as the Greenwich massacre. During this assault on peaceful protestors 200,000 or more people were killed. But in the year 1519 a man by the name of Johnathon Maxwell Irving Lambert XI took the Dictator out of power and had him hanged for high treason. The residents of Landingberg voted him Czar of Landingberg. His title became, His Serene Royal Highness The Grand Czar Johnathon Maxwell Irving Lambert XI. His Reign was rather peaceful other than one war that was started toward the end of his 37 year reign. In 1549 a tyrant by the name of Emperor Jaazir Mechavich took his tyranny out on Landingberg’s Eastern border as well as part of there own western border. Some question remains today on rather this order came straight from the Emperor or not but the true answer most likely will never be revealed. For five years the war went at a steady rate when Landingberg won a battle then Jzaricham would win a battle. It stayed like this until April 17, 1554 when Landingbergian General Edward Lafitte won a major battle for the then aging Czar and his Empire. After the siege of Jzaricham’s Capital the Emperor was banished to the Deserts of the Jzaricham Snow Lands. He was found mutilated there 5 months later by Imperial Landingbergian Guards. His Imperial Majesty helped to set up a government much like that of Landingberg’s. As of Today Jzaricham still exists but is ten times smaller than it once was. There current ruler is Empress Diana IX of Sindringham. Sadly on December 21, 1556 the Czar died of an ongoing fight with pneumonia. He died in his sleep a mere four days before Christmas Day. The Nation was plunged into unhappiness and total anarchy for about 15 days until somehow His Serene Royal Highness the Grand Czar Alexander Johnathonevitch Benjamin Frankfort Lambert I, the first born of Emperor Johnathon Lambert and Empress Linda Minvyeer Lambert, was able to make order once more in his fathers beloved Empire. Czar Alexander Lambert I had a more or less peaceful rule other than one war which began on August 3, 1561. It was between he and the nameless dictator of Lihinahoo. He had sent troops over to, what was at that time, Landingberg’s southern border and attacked showing no mercy. The Czar was outraged since they had literally never done anything to hurt or help Lihinahoo. He sent the Imperial Calvary to the southern border to fight of the horrible Dictator and his Army. A year into the War and the forces were slaughtering each other right and left. Until finally on October 31, 1564 the Calvary pushed back the Lihinahoonesse Army back until there capital city was under the control of the Landingbergian Military. The Lord General Mark Grimaldi II found the un-named dictator of Lihinahoo in a run down underground bedroom crying in a corner. The dictator was taken to Montresion (the capital of Landingberg at that time) and he was put on trial. The judge was His Serene Royal Highness The Grand Czar Alexander Johnathonevitch Benjamin Frankfort Lambert I. During the trial the Czar accused him of the following crimes. I. High Treason against his own nation II. Tyranny towards his people and the areas surrounding Lihinahoo. This included the Southern Border of Landingberg. III. He attacked Landingberg without any reason other than his own evil mind. These are the main reasons for which they decided to take him to court. In the end the Czar ordered him to be killed by a firing squad. It is said that on the Anniversary of his execution (March 19, 1567) that his ghost his heard going through the halls of the Imperial Court in the Krestof Palace. Today the Krestof Palace is a museum. IT is located about a 60 or so miles away from the ruins of Montresion. The rest of Grand Czar Alexander I reign was marked by a shooting up of the National Economy. The Czar also made headlines because of how he introduced the Catholic faith into Landingberg. Since he is the only Czar of Landingberg to ever be Catholic. Since, although the Landingbergian Imperial Family has freedom of Religion, most of them have been Pentecostal or something of the sort. He died in 1586 due to old age. Plain and simple as that. The third monarch of the Landingbergian Throne was the first born son of His Serene Royal Highness The Grand Czar Alexander Johnathonevitch Benjamin Frankfort Lambert I he was His Serene Royal Highness the Grand Czar Alexander Alexandrovitch Benjamin Frankfort Lambert II. He is best known for his gentle smile. He was in fact a bit of a play boy during his teenage years and it is rumored that even during his reign on the throne he had 4-5 affairs. The same is said about his younger and very beautiful wife who is said to not have been a virgin upon there marriage in 1579. It is rumored that she had, had an affair with three men during her marriage to the Czar. The three men are said to be His Royal Highness The Baron James Peabody of Steingham, His Serene Royal Highness The Grand Duke Wilhelm Nikolai Lambert of Asher (the Czars youngest Brother) and His Lordship Martin Al’Fonze Pickett of Capitally. His rule as Czar was relatively peaceful other than a rebellion in Eastern Landingberg due to the outrageous taxes that he imposed upon his people. He ordered for his troops to open fire upon the people. This gave him the nickname of Bloody Alex for the rest of his short reign for just three years later he died a horrible and mysterious death. It all began one week before his death on Monday, December 28th of 1609. He was at the Imperial Families Grand New Years Ball. A Ball that usually began on the 28th of December and went on night after night starting at 7:00 pm. It would end at the 12th bong of January 1st of the new Year. The setting was the Lambert Imperial Palace in downtown Landingberg. The time 10:00 P.M. the first of four balls over the next four days. He drank one glass of wine and ate just as everyone else did that night and made rather merrily but according to all accounts he did not become drunk. That night him and his wife went to bed with him complaining of a minor stomach ache. He woke up the next morning running a 102 degree (Fahrenheit) Fever. He was even forced to cancel the Imperial New Year’s Ball. His wife was in constant tears. She knew that one of the Eastern Landingbergian’s were trying to kill her husband. Finally on January 4, 1610 His Imperial Majesty the Grand Czar Alexander Benjamin Frankfort Lambert II died at the stroke of 5:00 in the morning. His doctors said that his death was of a rare stomach disease called Green Bends. It is called this because whenever a person has died and the autopsy has been done that find that the stomach is in a weird shape and has been changed into a sickening green color. Many think he was killed by Arsenic Poisoning that could have been planted in his cup which only he was allowed to use. Both have similar symptoms. An autopsy was never done on the Czar’s body. Many, if not all, the population of Landingberg says that he died of Poisoning. But the Imperial Family to this day swears that he was killed by Green Bends. They most likely say this to try and forget the horrific year in Landingberg’s History. Just five months later the coronation of His Imperial Highness The Grand Czar Alexander Alexanderovitch Benjamin Frankfort Lambert III (the last in the Alexander line) took place at Le Palais par la Mer (the Palace by the sea) a Giant palace near present day New Bethlehem. At that time the town was called The Jeweled City. It was really just a private village for nobles. Czar Alexander III took out his grief on the nation. He raised taxes 100%. He assembled huge numbers of men to build numerous Imperial Palaces and summer homes across Landingberg’s vast space. His anger was also fueled by the Empress’s in ability to provide a male heir to the Landingbergian throne. As we know now it is in fact the male who decides the gender of the child. But at this time they knew nothing of this. The Empress was deeply troubled by this fact. For she thought that there must have been something wrong with her. Finally on March 31, 1625 Empress Rose gave birth to a son. The whole nation was extremely happy for three weeks or so. But suddenly the young boy, Alexander IV, died napping. From that moment on H.I.M Czar Alexander III cursed the bed in which is only son was conceived. He left the Château Impérial du Ministre Occidental in Montresion for his newly built palace Gouden nam Palace toe. He never left his Palace again. Nor did he ever see his wife or the Crowned Duchess Veronica ever again. He made all of the outrageous laws while his wife Empress Rose attended parties and was well loved by the people of Landingberg. But as Empress Rose’s good image went up, what little Czar Alexander III ever had was swallowed up in1640 when he sent Imperial Guards to attack PEACEFUL protesters. Empress Rose was shocked whatever had been of the man that she once loved had died with their son the Late Czarevitch Alexander IV. The house of Lambert for the first time in Landingbergian History was divided between Czar and Czarina. The Czarina publicly apologized for her husbands tyrannical actions. The Next day from the Czars balcony he publically humiliated his wife. Calling her many a bad name. Finally in the year 1660 Czar Alexander III became deathly ill and unable to run his country. So Empress (Czarina) Rose took over for him. She abolished his outrageous taxes and cancelled the construction of all palaces which he was planning to have built. By 1660 there were 175 Palaces across Landingberg. Of which 119 had not yet had foot stepped in since there completion by any member of the Imperial Family. Empress Rose used these palaces so that the Nation would feel that her husbands horrible treatment of the people wasn’t for nothing. Empress Rose died on November 25, 1667 the entire nation, other than her husband, was in mourning. To this day there is a Holiday to celebrate her life. It’s simply called Empress Rose day. It is on the 20th of July every year, the day Commemorates her birth. She is one of if not the most loved Empress of Imperial Landingberg. Five days later her husband died after a long fight with cancer. The Nation seemed to show no sympathy for him. A first time thing was happening in Landingberg. A Female Lambert by birth was to be the highest ranking official in Landingberg. Sure Empress Rose had, had total control of Landingberg but she had it after her husband was unable to run the nation. Too she wasn’t a Lambert by birth. So on December 31, 1667 Her Imperial Majesty the Grand Czarina Veronica Alexandroveinia Marie Diamant Lambert was crowned Czarina and Autocrat of all the Landingberg’s at 3:00 PM. Her rule was a mild one. No one truly hated her. They knew why she raised the taxes a record 15 times but she didn’t ever use the taxes for the public good and people. Her 24 year reign was marked by civil unrest and many, many rebellions. Most of which ended in blood. The Czarina died a painful and tragic death on August 2, 1691 when her daughter the Grand Duchess Marie and heir to the throne in a fit of rage murdered her mother when she denied her, her place on the throne. It was also triggered by her mother’s abuse towards her. Empress Veronica had seen her as a threat to her popularity like her mother had been a threat to her fathers popularity. Grand Duchess Marie was shot running down the hall of the Le Palais de La Majesté. It is said that the hall of mirrors (the hall in which she was shot) is haunted by her ghost. The nation was losing more and more faith in there Imperial Families ability to rule Landingberg. Especially since there had been three deaths in the Royal Family that could have been prevented. The next Czar was His Imperial Majesty the Grand Czar Louis Veronicaevitch Mandell Troy Lambert III. He was automatically not put in favor of the people because his wife, Empress Jena Feodorovitch Patricia Leona CaRisaveo Lambert IV, was said to have been a prostitute before she met his Majesty Louis III. But there was no doubt as to the fact that she did not have her virginity. He was also a monarch who did not carry his grandmothers charm, kindness, and love for the people. He was more like his mother only more social. He taxed the poor people to the point that many had to pay taxes with there homes and in some more extreme cases the clothes off of the peasants back had to be torn off; Undergarments and all. The normal age for Landingbergians who were not of Nobility was a mere 45 years of age while it was not uncommon for the Landingbergian Nobles to live to be in there late 70’s which for that time was extremely old. Landingberg was for once in it’s history in an economic depression. The Landingberg Department of Economics was printing out Note *Landingbergian Money* Denominations in the Millions. One note would buy next to nothing anymore other than maybe between children. The Czar on the throne of Landingberg really could of cared a less about his Nations economic stress. In fact he was in control of some of the most expensive Military Campaigns since Alexander I. To the outside world Landingberg was still a prosperous nation with enough food, water, and jobs for everyone. While this fact was only true for the Nobility. Propaganda was being spread throughout the Nation like wild fire between the years 1695 and 1716. The Propaganda messages were abruptly ended on June 9, 1716 due to much rebellion. The government simply couldn’t afford to continue to spread propaganda and control the riots all across Landingberg. Not to mention the many revolts in 5 of there 20 colonies. Finally the entirety of Landingberg became up in Arms over the Government. There were murders of many nobles including the Czar’s wife. Who is said to have been one of the coldest rulers of Landingberg ever. To save his skin the Czar wrote up a Bill now know as the Okanawa bill because it was signed in the Carolina Palace overlooking Lake Okanawa. The Bill stated that the Imperial Family would keep there titles and be paid for them but they would have absolutely no power whatsoever. The Nation would be made into a Democratic Republic with a President, Senate, House of Representatives, and Supreme Court. More or less a government like the United States.

History 1720-Present

The Nation was left in ruins after the signing of the Okanawa Bill on April 17, 1719. It took the new government 6 months to write up a Constitution for the new government. After it had been written it took them 3 more months to elect a President. The First President of Non-Imperial Landingberg was President George Mason of South Beach, Nazareth. He had gotten the highest seat to a Nation left in ruins. Over the next 172 years the nation went through 21 Presidents before anything else major, that is worth writing of, would truly happen in the now Republic of Landingberg.

Ashland Lake Dispute(1872)

The day of March 17, 1872 started out to be an ordinary day just as any other. But it was transformed to a day that history would mark as the start of one of the biggest disputes in Landingbergian history. To this day people still argue over the nations decision. John Blake, a crawfish fisherman, went down to the Ash Lake one Sunday and started to fish. In the Republic of Landingberg at that time it was illegal to fish for profit in any government owned lake without a permit from the government. At exactly noon on the 17th of March a Federal Coast Guard boat pulled up beside Mr. Blake’s Crawfish boat and asked to see his Permit to fish on a Federal Lake. Mr. Blake was utterly confused. He had fished on the lake for 37 years for his locally owned business and had never had a single complaint from anyone with him fishing from the lake. He said politely, “No sir, I have no permit. Nor have I ever had one. Since this isn’t a federal lake. Federal lakes have signs all around them that say that it is a federal lake.” The two coast guards looked at each other and sighed. “Listen old man this Lake has always been a Federal Lake always will be. Now I am sorry old timer but we are going to haft to take you downtown.” Mr. Blake paused for a moment. “No I wont,” said Mr. Blake. “Excuse me,” said one of the police men. Well needless to say one thing led to another and Mr. Blake was forced to go to the Constable’s Station in downtown Ashland. Most of the population of Landingberg agreed with Mr. Blake. It seemed to be that just overnight Mr. Blake became an activist for Landingbergian rights. The Nation was torn in two, and for what? A dispute that a fisherman had, had with the government over the largest body of water of Landingberg. Finally the inhabitants of Asher Parish, Boonmat Parish, Mink Parish, Bwelon Parish, and Brittania Parish couldn’t stand the way that the government was beginning to limit there use on the Ash Lake and it’s surrounding water ways. They declared that the Wild Life and Fisheries department check and see if the Ash Lake was on the Federal Lake list and under control of the permit laws. Sure enough the Ash Lake was not listed on the Wild Life and Fisheries list of Lakes. Mr. Blake won his case of Blake verses Landingberg. For his troubles he got 50,000,000 Landingbergian Notes for his troubles (about 100,000,000 dollars in American Money). The famous Blake industries was formed with this money. Today Mr. Blake’s decedents are among the richest people in Landingberg. The Lake stayed off of the Wild Life and Fisheries Department list of Lakes until June 8, 1957 due to lagging amounts fish in the area. Today the issue is less of an issue.

The War of the Century(1916-1935)
