Lanerian State

A Lanerian State is any of the fifty Confederal Members which was recognized as a state in the United States of Laneria prior to the constitutional amendment banning intergovernmental unions between Members other than the Confederated Peoples itself. Because they have achieved equality as Members, the five former unincorporated Lanerian territories and the Lanerian Capital Territory are also sometimes referred to as Lanerian States. Not all Lanerian States use the term state in their official titles. Four prefer instead style themselves as commonwealths and one styles itself a republic.

Although Laneria no longer exists as a legal polity, there remains a special cultural and historical union among those Members which originally belonged to Laneria. They also share share relatively similar constitutional arrangements. All are presidential republics, although, as subnational governments, they style their head of state governor rather than president. All but one have bicameral state legislatures. All have supreme courts with powers of judicial review. The party system is also fairly uniform among these Members with the Republican and Democratic Parties dominating.
