Basic Information

The Republic of Lanquassia is a relativly new nation, but has been aggressive in its diplomatic contacts and economic expansion since its return to the international scene after the nearly century-long civil war after the destruction of Bariton and the fall of the Bari Empire.

Economy

Natural Resources: Lumber, Clay, Copper, Iron, Water, Titanium, Kelp, Uranium, Plutonium, Stone (Various Types), Gold, Coal, Saltpeter

Produced Resources: Pottery (Cultural Artifact), Electricity, Steel, Concrete, Machined Tools, Building Materials

The central provinces of Lanquassia do not have any ammount of fossil fuels with the exception of coal, which even at the depressed state the economy and industry is in, only supplies 45% of the nation's needs. While the nation is infused with the rest of the elements needed for a mass industrial revolution and expansion, it lacks oil and oil-based products to fuel that revolution.

However, of the resources it does have, it has in abundance, especially of Clay, Copper, Iron, Titanium, Steel, Concrete, Machined Tools, and Building Materials, which have helped create a larger infrastruction than what would normally be available, although the total capacity of resource transport is rather low.

Geography

Lanquassia's central provinces consist mostly of grasslands, plains, and forests, with a mountain range that exends along the southern border, and hills in that area. It has several minor rivers, and the Langua River, which flows and feeds the Langua River Valley, the heart and center of Lanquassian civlization, upon which small oceangoing trade vessels can actually traverse to reach nearly to the headwaters, all the way to the sea.

The northern border of the central provinces consists of an oceanic coastline, the eastern and western borders are currently undefined wilderness (Or claimed by another country. I don't know exactly where it is at this point.)

Political Organization

The Republic of Lanquassia is organized into a modified Imperial Republic, with a popularly elected President and Cabinent Members, with Ministers on three year terms with no limits, and the President limited to two consecutive six year terms of office.

The Legislative branch is the Senate with 200 Senators, elected popularly within equally populated districts. Senators serve six year terms, but senatorial elections are staggered, half are up for election every three years. There is a three consecutive term limit for Senators.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Lanquassia (SCORL) consists of 13 Justices, one of which acts as a Supreme Justice on a rotating basis. Justices are appointed by the President, and confirmed by the Senate, and hold the office for life, or until retirement. The SCORL holds the power of Review, and can deem an act Unconstitutional, or force a Special Election to decide an action, although this power has not been used.

Provencial Governers are appointed for life or unless recalled by the Senate or by a special Provencial election, or decide to run for another office, or otherwise retire. The Senate appoints, and the President approves, of any new Governers, provided that the Governer has met the two following qualifications: 1. Has had at least two years of Government Service; 2. Does not currently live in the province whose governership he is being nominated for, or has lived in for the past 10 years.

Colonial Governers are appointed in the fashion decided upon the ratifaction by the Senate of the specific Colonial Charter.

Political Units

The traditional organization of the Langua people has always been that of empire, province, then county and city.

The four central provences are: Langua, Uriel, Karlovak and Kornata.

Langua Capital City: Imperial City Governer: Miles D'Orville Noted Locations: Imperial City (National Capital), Caier Murah (Oldest Lanquassian settlement) Brief Info:

Langua is centered on Imperial City, the capital of the first Lanquassian civilizations (With the exception of the Bari Empire), and the heart of all Lanquassian civilizations, its the most populated province in the Republic.

Uriel Capital City: Moran Governer: Betthany Alemberque Noted Locations: Ricksburough International Spaceport Brief Info:

Formerly the worst hit of all the provinces coming out of the Chaos Years, it was turned around under Governer Jerome Blake, cousin to President John Blake. After his short retirement (Jerome Blake is now the Provencial Governer of Alioth), the local economy recessed some, but the charismatic new Governer Alemberque has rallied the industrial heartland of Lanquassia back to its feet. The desert to the west, only nominally within Lanquassian and Uriel borders, holds the Ricksburough International Spaceport project.

Karlovak Capital City: Musah Governer: Andre Castilla Noted Locations: Bariton (ruins), Mushaff Army Base, Allensport Breif Info:

Ironically one of the least damaged during the Chaos Years, and now the least advanced after the Restoration, Karlovak was the capital province of the Bari Empire, with Bariton as its heart. But with Bariton's firey death, the life has slowly died in the province, until the recent appointment of the fiery Andre Castilla, the former Lt. Governer under Jerome Blake in Uriel, and the halted war against War Declarers. Under his direction, Karlovak has started to expand and retrofit its economic backbone, as well as become the center for the majority of military research, housing, and international cultural exchange as the result of Alliance troops from Camewot and Mationland in Mushaff Army Base.

Kornata Capital City: Kornata City Governer: David Thomas Noted Locations: Lanquassian National Research Institute (NRI), Ellis I. Land Immigrant Processing Center Brief Info:

Kornata was a laid back, slower province until Governer Thomas negotiated from the Senate the rights to host the National Research Institute. Still considered slow and laid back, the large number of enthusastic scientists and students that have all but invaded the province is slowly dragging it awake. Also, various villages and hamlets being built by refugees and immigrants from other nations are starting to sprout up all around the EILIPC, where all immigrants and refugees are sent to be tested, fed, taught, and then given an orientation on Lanquassia.

Colonies

Alioth (Manium) Governer: Jerome Blake Status: Charter

Alioth is the first of Lanquassia's colonies, and so far is even rivaling Lanquassia in sheer territory size. Its population, however, remains surpressed due to the fact that not many Lanquassians, despite the terrific offers involved in becoming colonists, have an interest in leaving the great opportunies also available at home.

Trade and Alliances

Lanquassia currently trades with Kampfgarten and Camewott, and is looking to enter into more binding treaties on mutual self defence, trade, and research agreements.

Lanquassia is also the head and currently only member of the Mueller-Tran Space Project (MT Space Project), whose headquarters is the Ricksburough International Spaceport, in Lanquassia. The goal of the MTSP is to reach the wealth of nearby space, the moon, and the asteroids.

Historical Events of Note

The Bari Empire's Founding

The Bari were a clan within the city of Caier Murah who, by combination of political backstabing, military manuvering, and plain bluffing, turned the Federation of Maple into the Bari Empire, and founded a new capital, away from the Langua River Valley, at Bariton.

The Fall of the Empire

Some two hundred years later, the Empire was starting to strain at the seams holding it together. At the 'right' moment from a historical perspective, and the 'wrong' from the contemporary, a massive explosion that seemed nuclear at the time rocked Bariton, and killed nearly everyone in the city center - including most of the heavily centralized government - and ruining the city. Since then, investigators have determined the explosion to be non-nuclear, but as for who set the bomb, nobody has ever owned up. The destruction of the capital led to the fall of the government, and the start of the Chaos Years.

The Chaos Years

One hundred years of civil war, political and military manuvering, and the near breakdown of trade and the money economy as soldiers from various factions that arose from the fall of the Empire vied for dominance, but no one faction could ever hope to dominate over another, until John Blake formed an alliance with several others across the nation and ended the Chaos Years.

The Restoration

John Blake, acting as the head of an alliance of many major 'warlords' and 'bosses', as well as the few remaining elected peoples, permenantly ended the civil war with a grand battle at Moran, crushing the last, and the strongest, of the opponants to national unity. The gathered leaders of the nation offered the title of Emperor to John Blake, and he accepted. For five minutes, which is the length it took for him to draw up the Proclomation of Restoration, order the various lords to form a Congress to define a new Republican Constitution, and appoint himself as the head of the temporary interem government, and then abdicate the non-existant throne.

Since then, John Blake has been the Acting, then Elected President of the Republic of Lanquassia.
