The Republic of Laveritus is a very large, socially progressive nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate population of 175 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 64%, and even higher for the wealthy. An almost nonexistent private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.
The nation has an international reputation for compassion, citizens are allowed to rise or fall based on their own merits, the people are famous throughout the region for their bleached-white teeth, and sales of fishnet stockings have reached a record high. Crime is totally unknown. Laveritus's national animal is the wombat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the solar. 15 Jan 2005.
The early days of Laveritus were characterised by a very interventionist government style which lead to excellent civil rights and high ratings on the political freedoms - unfortunately a basket case economy. After a wake up call and provison of a link to NSEconomy[1] from the nation of Owenarcia a less interventionist approach was adopted in the hope that the economy would heal. Results to date are encouraging.
