Lawdogs

A lawdog used to be a knickname for a crook who turned to the good side. If you use this word in the strictest sense, then you can define every Guffingfordian policeman between 1850 and 1920 a lawdog. Morgan Bucksley popularized the term before and after The Blastersnatch Gunfight, where he was proud being a lawdog, a strong enough person to stand against all the criminals of his day. He called the police officers he worked with "lawdogs".
