History

In 1983 the Lenita Legions rugby franchise was formed in conjunction with the other seven teams of the league.

After the Locke Harbour Dragons, the Lenita Legions are the most successful franchise in the PRL having won 6 championships. Their most noteable achievements include:

  • In 1986 they made their first championship appearance in the PRL final and destroyed the now defunct Victory Union Cowboys 33-5 in the most lopsided win in a PRL final in the history of the sport up until that time.
  • In 1991 making it to the PRL finals though they were decimated by a powerful Pearson Cliffs Pirates squad 39-17 in a match they were never truly a part of.
  • In 1993 smashing nearly every single PRL final record in their 91-7 humiliation of the Locke Harbour Dragons in the final. The 91 points for, and the 84 points spread are still PRL final records today.
  • In 1994 they made it to the PRL final though they became the first team to be shut out in the final as the Locke Harbour Dragons got their revenge over the previous final, defeating the Lenita Legions 22-0.
  • In 1999 thrilled the hometown crowd with a wonderful display of rugby offense, as they defeated their rival Locke Harbour Dragons 65-47, setting a record for the most points scored in a PRL final by both teams combined.
  • In 2000, defeated the Viscount Bennett Imperialists in the city of Viscount Bennett during heavy rains 17-5, in a match that tied the record for the fewest points scored by both teams together in a PRL final.
  • In 2005, the Legions were able to defeat the season favourite Peace Warriors 34-13 in the Warriors first appearance in a PRL final.
  • In 2006, the Legions, despite their slow start, were the 1st place team entering the playoffs. In the finals they were able to silence the Stanislav Lions, allowing them to score only 2 drop kicks, while scoring 3 tries of their own to win the match 19-6.
  • In 2007, the Legions, despite being tied for the best record in the league with the Athens Invaders, lost a heartbreaker of a final to the Stanislav Lions. The Lions scored a drop goal in the 79th minute to win the match 23-21 before a packed Legionnaire Grounds.
