The Light of the West is an Elvish artifact which looks as a shining beacon of a bright white light. The object is approximately the size of a fishing bowl, possessing strange powers of attraction. The Light is said to "bind within it the power to illuminate the peoples of the West, to inspire the will to power, to legitimise power, to control it, and to hold on to it until everything else is lost."

A noble in posession of the artefact is referred to as the Prince(ss) of the West. The noble persons to have born the title 'Prince of the West' from 1581 onward are: Prince William of Knootcap, Prince Maurice of Knootcap, Prince Hugo of Knootcap, Prince Gozewijn of Knootcap, Prince Jan of Knootcap, Prince Jan II of Knootcap, Prince Jan III of Knootcap, Steward Marc-Alexander of Knootcap, Steward Maurice of Knootcap, Lady Protector Amalia of Knootcap, Prince Andrew Priestus, [...], Duke Kurtus Priestus (last known)

History

The Light of the West had been given to William of Knootcap by Elves. It is not exactly known, but thought highly likely, that these elves were Menelmacari and that giving the Knootians this artefact during their Revolt against Lavenrunz was part of a strategy to weaken their southern neighbours on the continent of Tareldanore. All of this is pure speculation, however. Regardless, the Knootians did win their war even if it cost the first 'Prince of the West' his life.

The Light remained in the posession of the House of Knootcap for a long time, until that House died out (after the Knootian war of Succession). The House of Priestus buried it deep in their treasure chambers where it remained for generations. It was lost during the revolution that overthrew the Iesus monarchy and only a few of this Royal House survive, residing in Lavenrunz. There are rumours that it is currently located in castle Fitzvairan (‘the devils den’) in St. Dominic in Iesus Christi
