Riikan is the official language of Kajal. It is musical, complex, and easily recognizable. It has been said that it reads not unlike Gaelic, and the accent it gives to English as spoken by Kajali is quite similar to an Irish accent, even though the language has no common roots with any known languages from Sol.

At current, there are three recognized dialects of Riikan - Deriiv, Ljosa and Solan. While documents in these dialects can be written with Standard Riikan, they both have their own sets of symbols. While Riikan and Ljosa calligraphy are similar, Deriiv and Solan are dramatically different.

Riikan, of course, was preceded by Old Riikan, of which it is unknown if there were many dialects. Old Riikan was known to possess two symbol sets itself, though it would appear that the first, featured more prominently on monuments, determined a symbol's meaning not only by its appearance, but its placement. As such, translations of Old Riikan are difficult, as one must have structural data to exact what is believed to be the correct meaning. Of course, it is entirely possible that reused symbols are simply repeated letters. Old Riikan is also known as Rikan, and translated directly to english, using the "monument" symbol set would yield the name "Riiaaa."

Modern Riikan, and its derivatives are spoken by roughly 5.34 billion sentients in the Federated Imperium of Kajal and the Grand Duchy of Kajal Mars, and approximately 2.94 billion sentients in the The Eternal Necrontyr Empire of The Ctan.

Hyphenation

Riikan does not use apostrophes. There are several riikan words that are combinations of words, joined by a hyphen, such as neru-kajuri.gif (neru-kajuri), which has the approximate meaning of "near-native". Another such word is kamar-oya.gif (kamar-oya), or "user".

Hyphens can also be used to bridge seperate words to simplify pronunciation.

For example:

motto1.gif

(O seiya her farhirra no myra lan cey arasur i O alari)

can be changed to

motto2.gif

(O-seiya-her farhirra no-myra-lan cey arasur-i o-alari.)
