Locke Harbour City State

Locke Harbour City State is the first city state, and the largest political entity (in terms of population) within the nation of PopularFreedom. Located in the middle of the eastern coast of the PopularFreedom main landmass, along the mouth of the Locke Harbour River, this massive metropolis is home to almost one tenth the population of the nation.

History

The push to have a city state in Locke Harbour was first introduced after the formation of the PopularFreedom Union of States in 1954 and the resolution by the nation to build Base Victory in 1955. At that time Locke Harbour was not the massive metropolis it is today but still held relative clout in the politics of the newly formed nation. Over time this control became weaker as more cities helped to push their views forward and onto the national agenda. The western cities in the nation voiced their opinion that they were being ignored by the east where the power of the nation lay. It has been felt by many political observers that due to this push by cities in Western PopularFreedom, that Prime Minister Frank Hujar built the chief military base of the nation, Base Victory, in the western part of the nation.

The decision to build Base Victory in the west did not go overwell with many eastern cities and Locke Harbour especially vowed to find a way to ensure that they would have more say in national decisions, which helped to give birth to the idea of a super city.

Over the last five decades this idea grew and at one point included the city of Magna Carta, 250 kilometres east of Locke Harbour. As decades elapsed it was realized by the planners of the super city that they would have to scale back their dream if it was ever to become a reality. Therefore on January 1, 2005 Locke Harbour mayor Birt Hobart announced the finalized plans during his New Year's Day address. This plan called for a supercity, just over 25 square kilometres in distance.

Despite protests against the citystate on the first day of its existence, the Locke Harbour City State has functioned effectively as a political entity.

Originally, when the Locke Harbour City State was created, the exact population was recorded incorrectly. This was because there was huge discrepency between the viewpoints of the mayors of Locke Harbour and the mayors of the remaining cities within the Locke Harbour City State on exactly which cities now made up the city of Locke Harbour and which were only apart of the Locke Harbour City State. After a few weeks of clarification, these discrepencies were resolved however not before numerous government and media documents had been printed noting incorrect figures for the population of these political entities.
