The Lorton Class Aircraft Carrier is a helium filled, rigid airship. They are produced by Franberrian Airships
The Lorton Class Aircraft Carrier can hold 10 F-18’s. These aircraft are launched vie a catapult. There are blast shields all around the catapult, to protect the inside of the ship from being damaged. The catapult launches the aircraft out of the airship at 350km per hour, the plane must the rapidly accelerate in order not to stall. “Landing” is very similar to in-flight refueling, the airplane comes behind the airship at very low speeds, were it is picked up by the crane. Landing is quite tricky, and it is recommended that no inexperienced pilots attempt this outside of training situations.
The aircraft are stored in the Cargo bay, above the catapult and in front of the landing hook. The airplanes can be lowered into the catapult from above, using a lowering floor. Aircraft are moved onto the cargo bay by the landing hook.
A large Radar/Ladar component is stored in the front of the ship. It can track multiple targets and it can also functions as an AWACS. Should the time for evacuation occur, the crew can quickly exit via the detachable gondola (holds 50) or one of the 5 escape pods (holds 3 each).
