The Right Honourable Signore Luciano Massimo Vincenti Abrigo Dolusconi Cannavaro, M.A.PSci, (born 6th January 1956 in Pamagento, Margheria, Pacitalia) is the thirty-fifth junior deputy prime minister of Pacitalia, appointed to the cabinet of Constantino Sorantanali on Wednesday, 1st February, 2006. Cannavaro has a storied career as a politician in which he rose quickly from a junior to a very senior position in the government and now sits as the fourth-in-command in the Pacitalian government.

Cannavaro, a capitalist conservative member of the "Rat Pack" which brought Dr. Timotaio Ell to the prime ministership in 1996, is yet another strong right-of-centre force that will balance the centrist views of his prime minister. This ascension to the fourth-in-command marks yet another promotion that many supporters say will place him in the prime minister's chair in due time.

As Agustinate of Public Communication (1996-1998)

First elected in 1993 he was a backbencher, but in Ell's 1996 government, Cannavaro was appointed Agustinate of Public Communication. Cannavaro simplified the relationship between the government and the media and made it easier for private and amateur media to access government information. He also increased the number of press conferences held by government officials, in a move to avoid speculation and confusion amongst the media, and thus the voting public. Dr. Ell held the most press conferences of any prime minister as a result - 919 from 1996 to 2006. The rest of his cabinet held another 448 in that nearly decade-long span.

As Agustinate of Education (1998-2002)

In 1998, Cannavaro was promoted to the portfolio of Education under the second Ell government. Under the small-government policy of Ell, he reorganised the education spending system by placing increasing amounts of education funding responsibility on private institutions. He privatised the five-campus National University of Pacitalia in 2001 and increased the amount of private education spending from 45% to 60% in 2002.

As Agustinate of Finance (2002-2006)

A 2002 cabinet shuffle placed Cannavaro in the very senior position of Agustinate of Finance, where he had stayed up until the 2006 general election. In the finance department, he trimmed much of the fat and waste given to bureaucracies all over the government, helping speed the Ell administration's process of thinning the government down to a more proportionate size for a capitalist society.

Respect for Cannavaro

Cannavaro is known as a man who puts popular interests ahead of governmental interests. This was partially evident in his policies as heads of the education and finance ministries, but moreso when he said "the government should be the soil, the people the seed, the nation the plant." Cannavaro is a populist who believes in smaller government and more direct representation of constituents.
