Luftjager are Mikitivity paratroopers, getting their name from the German words luft for air and jäger which translates into hunter or ranger. Although organizationally the Luftjager units fall under the command of the Mikitvity Armee, they are typically deployed from Miervatian Luftwaffe airship transports and include many specialized units that would normally be assigned to the Mikitivity Medical Corps or MECs commands. In general Luftjager function as recon and first strike units, but surprisingly comprise of over 10% of the military.

Like all Mikitivity military units, enlisted Luftjager troops are frequently seen on Mikitivity Bahn trains (where they ride for free), while traveling from one part of the country to another for training exercises. It is said that Luftjager are trained to find the shortest route from any landing to the nearest rail line, where they can be quickly transported to an airbase for redeployment.

Luftjager exercises will involve rapid deployment in all cantons, including the restricted areas within Aslan canton.

Training

Conscripts that are assigned to the Luftjager attend a basic drop school, Luftschule, that focuses on parachuting, reconnaissance, and hiking. The Luftschule ends with a night patrol drop from an airship into a wilderness area. The patrol must make it from an unmapped area back to any military post under to earn their Euleflugel (owl wings). Conscripts may then elect to continue their training in various specialty schools under the command of other Mikitivity military branches.

Equipment

Luftjager are usually very well equipped due to the fact that their rapid deployment can have them dropped into hostile territory without any support for extended durations. All luftjager are issued special jump boots manufactured by Cruetzfeldt. Unlike normal combat boots, Cruetzfeldt boots are laced mid-calf in order to give the paratroopers better ankle support. The boots are also made out of the finest leather. Since the paratroopers are trained to jump into mountainous and rough terrain, in addition to a normal back-up chute that one would expect, Luftjager are also equipped with knee and elbow pads in case they need to make a crouched landing. By policy, all chutes must undergo through inspections before reuse.
