The Grand Duchy of Lycia City is a massive, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. It is almost completely a desert except for a few mountains at the north of the country.
Lycia City is a self-governing colony of Ness Snorlaxia, and was just recently upgraded to Grand Duchy. The current Grand Duke of Lycia City is also the Emperor of Ness Snorlaxia, Hurchxuu VI. The head of government is the Governor, the current one being Sarah Bloemfontein, who was appointed in 2005 after the resignation of Artanis Yávëtil.
The Capital of Lycia City is the namesake Lycia City. Other major cities include Khathelet and Helsinki. Lycia City is defended by the Ness Snorlaxian Armed Forces, which citizens of the grand duchy are allowed to join.
The national animal is the Goomba. Although there are a lot of Goombas that are as smart as humans, there are also others that act like pets. The national anthem is called Smiles and Tears, the author of which is unknown.

Geography
Lycia City is located in the Great Desert of Q102, south of Nevareion. As such, the vast majority of all terrain is desert, although there are grassy areas in cities and towns.
In the northwest of the country, near Khathelet and going up to the border of Nevareion, there are mountanious areas known here as the Bern Mountains.

Climate
The climate is basically the same throughout the country. It is very hot all year, with tempuratures anywhere from 80 to 140 degrees farenheit during the day. At night, tempuratures are anywhere between 30 to 70 degrees farenheit.
In the mountains, the tempurature varies with elevation.

History
Pre-Colonization
Before the colonization of Lycia City, the area was divided into various nomadic tribes. These were:
- the Sacae, which inhabited the area of present-day Sacae District.
- the Lyqians, which inhabited the area of present-day Lycia District.
- the Bulgars, which inhabited the area of present-day Bulgar District.
- the Elimine, which inhabited the area of present-day Elibe District and Araphen District.
- the Caelini, which inhabited the area of present-day Caelin District and Uusimaa District
- the Bernae, which inhabited the area of present-day Bern District and Mallakastër District
These nomadic tribes had no organized government, but each tribe had an elected king. These tribes lived in peace with each other.
One major thing that the tribes invented was a ger, which is a large, moveable house. This is still used in modern-day Lycia City, though has been largely phased out by the motorhome.
Colonization
Under the reign of Arujuxuruanduru VI of Ness Snorlaxia, the nation started a massive colonization program after the Independence Wars of Super Mario Bros.
After departing from Fourside, the Ness Snorlaxian colonization convoy reached the coast of Q102, and wanted to colonize the desert, hoping they would find something valuable.
What they found eventually were the nomadic tribes, the first of which were the Lyqians. The Ness Snorlaxians, who were interested in just taking over the territories, took over the area of the Lyqians effortlessly. After this, they were able to take over the area of present day Lycia City in 1765.
From 1765 to 1783, the colony was known as New Ness Snorlaxia, and the capital was New Fourside. Rebellions against colonial rule did occur, but the Ness Snorlaxians won most of the battles. After the area was stabilized under the reign of Kaxue LXXXIII, it was renamed to Lycia City, a capital was set up at Lycia City, on an island in Lake Kuopio, and a stable government was set up. The first colonial governor was supposed to be Fransis Bryant, but he was assassinated by people for the independence of Super Mario Bros before leaving Ness Snorlaxia.
The first colonial governor then ended up being his five-year old daughter, Cassandra Bryant (b. 1778), who was installed in 1783, when she arrived. The early government was primarily set to defend Ness Snorlaxian interests and prevent colonial rebellion.
Under Hurchxuu V
Kaxue LXXXIII was assassinated in 1795, leaving the just-born Hurchxuu V as Emperor of Ness Snorlaxia. In the early part of his reign, the colony was starting to stabilize, with colonists arriving and nomadic tribes settling into the towns.
However, in 1810, the most devestating revolt occured. Under Sacaean tribal leader G'hci Xhtrphxltxji, the native peoples briefly overthrew the districtal government. The Lycian War of 1810-1812 lasted two years, which ended with the near-extinction of that tribe and the pacifiying of all tribes. After the war, the Bryant government engaged in a reconstruction program across the colony. Roads and towns were built, and many colonists came to the desert land, hoping to find a new life and riches.
Around the 1860's, the Industrial Revolution occured throughout the Ness Snorlaxian empire. In Lycia City, new towns sprang up, most notably Araphen, which eventually became its own district. The Bryant government, still in power (as the Lycia Constitution declared the first governor to have a life term), welcomed this favourbly. Within years, what was once considered to be a large desert became a centre for manufacturing.
Bryant died in 1898, after 115 years of ruling the colony. Although the original constitution declared family sucession, Prime Minister Khedebneithireretbeneret Lemminkäinen declared this null and void, and replaced the governor with one that was elected by the people.
The 20th and 21st Centuries
After the death of Hurchxuu V in 1922, Lycia City was becoming a major tourist destination by people who were mystified by the desert. The growth in tourism started an economic boom. What also helped were companies setting up their headquarters in the colony, turning the country into an economic powerhouse.
On April 15, 2005, Lycia City was promoted to a Grand Duchy, with the Emperor of Ness Snorlaxia also becoming the Grand Duke of Lycia City. This also meant that it also recieved less governance from Ness Snorlaxia. It was met by many celebrations across the country.

Transportation and Communications Networks
Main article: National Trunk Highway System
As a Ness Snorlaxian colony, the Grand Duchy uses the National Trunk Highway System used in the mother nation. Highways are the most-used form of transportation, but sandstorms will sometimes prevent traffic from moving. All major cities are connected using this system, along with some of the smaller ones. Unlike Ness Snorlaxia, there are no tolls.
Railways
Very few railways run through the country. The longest one starts at the border with Nevareion, goes southwest (not exactly reaching Lycia City, but close), and continues going in that direction through the Great Desert.
Airways
Lycia City is served by Goomba Airlines, the national airline carrier of Ness Snorlaxia.
Television

Lycia City is served by the same television stations as Ness Snorlaxia, such as the Victoria Broadcasting System (the largest TV network in the country). However, there are many regional television stations catering to the Lycia audience.
Radio

Unlike Ness Snorlaxia, Lycia City is not as television-dominant as the mother nation, because many more Lycians like going out often.
There is a government-owned station called Fourside National, based in the Ness Snorlaxian capital of Fourside. It is a radio version of BBC.
However, there are many local stations, most of which play music. These get the most listeners.
Newspaper

In Lycia City, the newspaper is not very common. Most news sources are found online, mainly to cater to the ever-growing youth and tech-crazy market.
The most read non-internet newspaper is the Shining Star (the name of which is based off of the motto; "The morning sun is shining like a red rubber ball."), although it does have a website.

The People
Lycia City is a mix of many different races and cultures, although less so than Ness Snorlaxia.
Species
Humans and Goombas are the most common species, totaling 695 and 477 million respectively. Many elves also call Lycia City home, about 235 million of them.
After that, the two largest groups of species are the Koopa Troopas and Dwarves. There are also many other species which constitute the "other" group.

Ethinc Groups
As a colony of Ness Snorlaxia, many people consider themselves Ness Snorlaxian (think Western European/American/Canadian).
After that are Eastern Europeans, primarily the Finns, which total about 515 million people. Most of these are descended from the Finns that immigrated from Ness Snorlaxia.
The other primary ethinc group would be the East Asians, primarily the Japanese, most of whom are also descended from Ness Snorlaxian immigrants.

Language
Lycia City has three official languages. The majority language is English. Ness Snorlaxian English, basically, is a combination of American and Canadian English, and at the beginning of a word, the letter "K" replaces the letter "C" in some cases. (ex. Kongo instead of Congo)
The largest majority language (and thus official) is Finnish, spoken in the Uusimaa District (Uusimaan alue, ウシマ地区, Rrethi i Ushimës). Albanian is the third-most spoken language, spoken in the Mallakastër District (Mallakastërin alue, マラカサテラ地区, Rrethi i Mallakastrës).
Greek, Japanese, and Swedish are the three most-spoken minority languages. However, Japanese is official because it is an official language in Ness Snorlaxia.

Culture
Lycian culture is largely based off Ness Snorlaxian culture, but the people are much more outgoing and social.
Most Lycians are regarded as a fun-loving, laid-back, liberal people who like peace and beauty. They want almost everything to be legalized and are tolerant of other peoples or species.
Many people living in Lycia love ceremonies and celebration, but do not like excessive displays of personal wealth or patriotism. Personal freedom is written into law, and the government is not allowed to decide or see what goes on in a person's house, however, the only reason anyone working for the government can go in one's house is if the person living in the house comitted a crime.
Lycia is a semi-regulated society. There are basic rules that people must follow at work, school, or in public places, but these rules do not infringe on anything that would be considered personal (eg. clothing). On the personal level, most families usually follow some sort of schedule.
One important thing of Lycian culture is the Sauna, which originated from Finnish culture. Most people will go out to sauna at least once a week, and most foreigners will be invited to the sauna after a relationship has been developed.
Religion
Lycia is a largely non-religious state, with most of the population claiming to be atheistic or non-religious. This is largely due to lack of government support for religious services.
The religion with the most followers is Martelism, totaling 225 million. This religion revolves around the worship of a goddess Martel, a goddess whose main role is the protection of Her faithful.
After that is Islam, which is worshipped mostly among the Albanian community. Other major religions include Roman Catholicism and the Bahá'í Faith.
