Overview

The small but proud tribal region known as Altrufal is now MFUSR's UN District. Unlike other nations under the hand of MFUSR, Altrufal is not politically independent in any sense. All of its internal policies are decided by the puppet government set up within its borders. This government was set up so that MFUSR could have a say in the policies of the UN, but not be subject to the rules and regulations required of UN members. Needless to say, this "UN District" is a very controversial issue within the UN.

Geography and Environment

MFUSR UN District and its neighbors of MFUSR, Calvinastion, and Hamboniastion are all situated upon the island continent of Tyr, which is located in the northeastern seas. In comparison to other landmasses, the continent is rather small, but it is the home of more than 8 billion human beings. 2 billion of these people live within the borders of the UN District. MFUSRUND itself is located in the northeastern section of the continent, where it experiences pleasant weather year-round. Despite having the same approximate population as its neighbors, MFUSR's UN District is exponentially smaller than the other three nations on Tyr. Its capital (and only) city is Tarrenheim.

Tarrenheim

With less than 100 acres of countryside, MFUSR's UN District is much less a nation than it is a metropolis. Almost all of the nation's 2 billion citizens reside within the capital of Tarrenheim. This ashphalt maze dominates the landscape, and its towering structures can be seen from miles away in any direction. Despite being confined to a rather small area of square mileage, Tarrenheim makes space - vertically. Spires more than 2500 feet tall are a simple and effective way to house the billions of Altrufal that live in the city. Furthermore, these skyscrapers are interconnected at various levels by foot (and automobile) bridges. These constructions add a horizontal element to living in the clouds and create "cities on top of cities". Indeed, it is possible to live one's entire life in Tarrenheim and never set foot on the face of the earth.

Many are confused when they hear MFUSR UN District described as an "environmentally pleasant" nation considering how the territory is dominated by a heavily urbanized city. However, Tarrenheim's monumental use of pumps and "vertical irrigation" have kept the area environmentally intact. Grass grows along sidewalks at 1,700 feet in the air and one can visit a zoo 24 feet under the earth. This entire environmental system is expensive to maintain; it is not suprising that managing it is the peaceful government's main priority--besides providing a stream of revenue to MFUSR.

History and Status

In 1974 CE, Altrufal was annexed by MFUSR in a very speedy tank-oriented campaign. The entire conflict took less than 3 months and resulted in little death from both sides. At the time, Altrufal was an already urbanized small territory where native Tryians gathered. In a way, Altrufal and Tarrenheim were the "Vatican" of Tyr. The nation had virtually no military, so the takeover was efficent and peaceful. The only major resistance came from rioting civillians, who could not match the power of MFUSR's main battle tanks. The city was taken in 10 weeks.

Over the course of the few years after the '74 invasion, MFUSR got to work on rebuilding Altrufal's (or MFUSR UN District's) government. All political power now resided in a Chancellor, who was appointed by MFUSR's Crimson Knight and approved by the Council of Eternals. MFUSR District was nothing more than a puppet dictatorship. However, the chancellors chosen and confirmed have historically been very liberal and compassionate individuals. Therefore, opression and corruption in MFUSRUND has always been low.

In 1981, MFUSR UN District was accepted into the United Nations without much of a splash. However, an independent documentary by a MFUSR native in 1996 exposed the practice of establishing a front country. The intitial outrage was very large. There was even a move to expel MFUSR UN District from the UN. However, the nation was allowed to keep its membership.

MFUSR UN District is the most peaceful of MFUSR's occupied territories. Most experts attribute this to a variety of factors, including common Tyrian ancestoral heritage with MFUSR, direct control of the government by the Fatherland, and a peaceful, liberal government. MFUSRUND's current chancellor in Aria Tarsk, who was appointed by Yuri Uchenko in 2002. Her approval rating stands at 86%.
