Terra Matsu, which had been previously inhabited by First Nations (Natives), was first visited by Germanic peoples in 17 December, 982CE, who settled in what is now Hertberg. This first visit was permanent, and was followed by many subsequent settlings.

In the year 978CE, a group of people, skilled at plotting, decided to explore their land, and discovered that Terra Matsu was far larger than originally thought. Some of these people, liking a bit of land that they had encountered, decided to settle there, and so named their settlement Kersier.

The two settlements were independent of each other, and as such, acted as separate nations. However, after linking by a path, in 1023, the two cities were united as a part of one territory. Likely as a result, in 1025, a monarchy was established, and three social classes were set in law. The first king was Koenagas Filipe Othar. In the 1040s, he ordered a national language created, as a part of a need for identity. As such, Old Matsui was born. In the 1050s, he created a unified system of measurements based on base-15 mathematics.

Othar died in 1079, and the throne was taken by Telavri Ritkens. Unbeknownst to the citizens, he was of foreign descent, and, in 1092, he made Terra Matsu a part of Asgata Politka, a long-deceased nation. Uncaring of this foreign rule, in the year 1124, a group called Undreluira Sosiat (Underground Society, in Late Old Matsui, Hertbergian dialect) formed, with the intention of removing foreign control. After a fairly brief war, in 1129, Matsui independence was gained.

For a long while, time passed and life remained the same. But, in 1420, this bubble was popped as a wave of Latinic immigrants arrived and introduced the Roman alphabet and the Greek concept of democracy. Inspired by this concept, in the year 1428, rioters (mostly third-class citizens) burned down Merclib, Bazgarda, Ophervël, and Hartsfar. Days after the burnings, civil war was officially declared. On August of the same year, the ruling King Lortfaer Retfyer was assassinated, and in 1432, the nobles surrendered and monarchy fell. On 23 December, a man named Kortšä Armangehën was made the first president of Naië Dera Usta Aer Tera Matsu (The Just/Democratic Nation of Terra Matsu).

More peace followed, but this peace and quiet was soon to become loud and obnoxious. In 1790, an industrial revolution swept the nation, followed by the introduction of the train in 1866, and the introduction of the auto mobile in 1898. (The petrol-fueled auto mobile was soon to be replaced by an electric-powered counterpart.) In 1980, the personal computer was introduced. Thirteen years later, the internet took off, and Terra Matsu was no longer isolated. In 2003, the first commercial airline took off; in 2010, the first hydrogen auto mobile was produced in a mass-production factory; and, after many years of delay, an inter-island bridge was completed in 2031.
