Merchet was the king of Gannam in the times of king Tephe of the Peleveunians.He was the father of Arcot of Gannam .He participated in the coalition against the Peleuveni,along with 2 other tribes and 15 cities,but was defeated for reasons unknown.He was killed in the batle and was succeeded by Syebus ,who retreated shortly afterwards.Tephe ordered him buried with royal honors in the royal tombs. His inscription reads:"Here lies the king of Gannami,Merchet el Arcot,who died when warring this kingdom."
