First stage of the Metroid metamorphosis.
</div>

Metroids or scientifically Metroisis metamorphse (Weaponized nomenclature code: WA-Species Metroid) is the newest tool researched and weaponized by the Biological Preparations Directorate of the Military Affairs Commissariat. Being a seperate evolution of the single celled organism, created through a combination of solar radiation and high amounts of gamma radiate in northern Sibera, the metroid is a species of animal that goes through several stages of metamorphosis eventually reaching a mixture of a replitilian-insect being.

General information

History

Originally protozoans living in the northern Pacific Ocean between Siberan and Alaska, the metroid was first discovered in 1967 by Dr. Nikolai Vysclayin (a Soviet biologist researching the affects of nuclear testing and single-celled lifeforms). It was found, that due to a combination of high industrialization creating small holes in the ozone (allowing for solar radiation to penetrate) and gamma radiation from high-yield nuclear weaponry - the metroid adapted and evolved from a single-celled protozoa into a carnivorous being.

As of now, the metroids survives in northern Siberia and Northern Scotish SSR; however, they are not partial to any particular climate.

Metamorphosis

A metroid will typically live between eighty and ninety years - respectively. During this period of time they will go through seven stages of metamorphosis. The following is a compilation of each stage:

  • Stage One: The metroid appears much like a jellyfish. Housed within its head is its nucleus and other functioning components. In its lower hemisphere is housed the four mandibles, muscle structure, and maw.
  • Stage Two: The four mandibles extend outward and are somewhat longer. Otherwise, no physical or anatomical changes occur.
  • Stage Three: The exhausts that allow the metroids to fly is seal and the four mandibles extend to be used as legs. On the sides of its maw appears small mandibles that will eventually grow into arms.
  • Stage Four: The fleshy under-belly of the metroid becomes covered in hard scales, and the upper-hemisphere is coated in flesh and scales. Its mandibles begin to appear more like talons. The limbs near the maw extend to a shorter length and appear to have three claws. The maw juts outward and eyes appear to be visable. At this stage, the body seperates into an abdomen and thorax.
  • Stage Five: The abdomen and thorax matures. The final metamorphose of the limbs form.
  • Stage Six: The head matures. The metroid now travels on four legs and uses its excellent eye-sight for hunting. It has been shown that metroids hun in packs much like wolves.

The metamorphosis of metroids can bee increased by using massive amounts of gamma radiation as a catalyst. This has been utilized by the Soviet military in order to turn the metroids into biological weapons.

Biological classification

As of now, metroids are classified as protists(neither plant, animal, or fungi). They were incorrectly named as a parasite until 2000 when Dr. Freidrick Gerhard of the German SSR correctly classified them.

Feeding habits

Metroids feed on virtually any living organism. They are known to be partial to large deer and other animals of that size. Incorrect information states that metroids only survive under the surface of the ocean, but this has been proven to be incorrect.

Breeding

During mating season (early May to late December), female metroids release their eggs atop the surface of the water which are later fertilized by a male metroid. The eggs will eventually sink beneath the surface of the water and grow until being released by a small explosion of methane that is naturally developed in the metroid's body.

During a typical, healthy female metroid's mating session, she will lay between 4,000 and 50,000 eggs - eighty percent of which will successfully hatch and survive. Small metroids live on their own from birth, and they do not receive any nurturing from their mothers.

Unique features

During its first three metamorphic stages, the metroid produces a neurotoxin in its body. This is injected via the front mandibles of metroid. Metroid poisoning is considered usually fatal due to the neurotoxins fast acting ability to deestroy the central nervous system within several hours and disable the victim in minutes.

As mentioned above, a misconception is that the metroid lives under the surface of the ocean; however, the metroid lives on land and is capable of flight. This is possible by small pores on its underside that release amounts of gases (including methane) that are naturally produced in the metroids body. Due to internal, chemical combustion, propulsion is achieved by short bursts of gases through these pores.

Weaponized Metroids

Upon discovering their potential as biological weapons, Biopreparat began researching on how to control the metroids. A process called metroid fixation was developed. The following is the released information on the process:

  • After hatching, the metroid hatchling is collected and a quantum computer, microprocessor, and communciations receiver is inserted through their gelatin upper-hemisphere.
  • Through growth, the metroid adapts to the small, electronic device and grows around it.
  • Upon necessary maturation, telecommunications are sent to the receiver, allowing for physical control over the metroid for use in military application.

I do not own or claim to own the copyright to the Metroid mentioned in the Metroid series.
