The Holy Empire of Edvardus maintains a large military establishment. Until the reign of HIM Rinaldo I, the military was in place to defend Edvardus from an imminent attack. Now, the military is prepared to take a more offensive role if necessary.

History

When Edvardus first developed a military, the Constitution made it illegal to be in an offensive position in international territory. Within the empire, the military was only allowed to fire upon enemies if first fired upon or as an urgent pre-emptive measure (e.g. when an enemy attack is imminent).

The Military Police was started by Pius XIII in Year 114. The Coast Guard was started by Marcellus III in Year 119. The Army, Navy, and Air Force were started by Rinaldo I in Year 146.
