The Sovereign Village of San Adriano is a tiny, landlocked country, with one of the smallest armies in the world. It has no navy and no air force, but maintains an army of nine volunteer soldiers (2.1% of the population).

San Adriano is entirely surrounded by the Autocracy of Uhuh-Topia, with which it maintains cordial relations. Although no formal defence treaty has been established, it is widely believed in San Adriano that the larger nation would ensure its defence if need be.

Sanadrianese Royal Defence Force

The Sanadrianese Royal Defence Force is tasked, in theory, with the country's defence. In practice, its five soldiers take turns manning the border checkpoint with Uhuh-Topia, by the road which connects the two countries. They verify and stamp passports, and welcome visitors to San Adriano.

Somewhat surprisingly, perhaps, there are no ranks in the Defence Force; the five soldiers manage decisions amongst themselves, and report to the seven-member Parliament if need be. In theory, the monarch may give orders directly to the Defence Force.

Sanadrianese Royal Guard

The Sanadrianese Royal Guard are the ceremonial body tasked with the protection of the Royal Palace and of Princess Serena Eu. They are four in number, and take turns standing guard in front of the Palace one by one. The Changing of the Guard, twice daily, is an event often watched by tourists.

If the Princess travels abroad, custom dictates that two Guards will accompany her. When the Princess leaves the Palace but stays within San Adriano, however, it is rare for a Guard to accompany her.
