Overview of the Serene military

The military of the Armed Republic of the Serene Death is made up of both drafted and volunteer personnel. After 18 all citizens are drafted into the military for 2 years. These draftees spend one year training before being scattered amongst the regular troops for their second year to learn from the expiriances of the troops around them. After their two years they are allowed to make a choice: make the military their carrer, go to college (partially paid by government), or go on to another carrer. It is believed that the two years of military service makes many appreciate the job more and causes a higher rate of volunteers, both for officers and enlisted.

After their first year of basic training with the enlisted troops, officer trainees train for another year before heading off to active duty. The first half year of this training is basic tactics and strategy, as well as troop moral and logistics. The second half year is in depth training in their chosen branch of the military. Near the end of this training they are also trained for the sub-branch they will be working in. After their two years of training, all officers must serve a minimum of 2 years active duty before being able to leave the military. This takes more time to train officers but allows for better trained officers, following the old saying "quality, not quantity."
