Monacon

The state of Monacon is a massive, safe nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its compassionate, hard-working, cynical population of 2.509 billion are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives.

Government

The pseudo-government is split into two sections, and both are subordinate to the same man, known only as "the Director", though recently his power has been sapped by his old age and various uprisings, dealt with increasingly poorly.

The Parliament

Split into the Lower and the Upper Houses, the Parliament passes bills to the Director for approval. Recently they have been more and more bold and requested his removal, which resulted in the dissolution of parliament for only the second time in it's 92 year history.

The Lower House

The Lower House has representatives from each region, voted on by the local populace. This House makes all policy decisions on all areas of Home and Foreign policy.

The Upper House

The Lower House is headed by the The Upper House is made up the CEOs of the 24 largest and most successful businesses. This House controls all spending.

The Director

As his slogan goes "The Man behind Monacon", it is indeed true that he turned Monacon from a poorly developed waste of space into the economic powerhouse that it is today. However, with the income tax rate seemingly stuck at 100%, it may be time for him to step down, and let the businesses take over.

Very little is known about him, some say he used to be the head of the military, others say he is from another planet. He rules an Orwellian regime, often making changes on a whim. For the most, it has been for the good of the country, however, with the recent slaughter of environmental protesters by the Monacon Army, the people are in the mood to revolt. This is an unstable region at the time of writing.

Monacon lies on the border between the dry semi-arid reason in the north and west, and the rainy jungles of the south and east.

With the most successful businesses in control of all spending, and the insightful leadership of the Dictator of old, the economy blossomed. Currently with an extremely high rate of income tax, there are signs of a slowdown. The GDP is at highest it has ever been, but has seemingly peaked, and has not increased significantly for 4 years.

Military

Under the Director, the military has become an integral part of Moncaon. Two year National Service is compulsory for all, and cannot be bought out of, contrary to popular speculation. Recent commercialisation of the latest weapons technology has brought a welcome increase in funds. Most military funding goes into space-age research, like massive satellite systems which can bring down hostile ICBMs, or fry a whole region with a laser. All troops are trained in common arms use: rifles, microwave guns, pusle rifles and railguns.

A small, elite unit, a cross between the British SAS and the Russian KGB, are kept for special situations. They are trained in the most advanced techniques and are currently deployed in countries around the world in deep cover, ready to respond at any moment.
