Background

The Nation of Mondoth was founded by Islamic Exiles from Britain, and Spain in the early 1500's. These exiles found the Mondothian continent at roughly the same time (although each group landed on a different shore) The colonies they established exercised full independence of each other and in most cases it appears they were largely unaware of each other. However, as each small nation expanded into the early 20th century, border problems began to arise and several small conflicts broke out eventually breaking into an all out war in the late thirties. The Primary weapons of all sides were primitive biological weapons that spread ravaging diseases throughout the nations like wildfire. After almost three years of continuous war and increasingly ravaging diseases the three main factions agreed to meet and discuss terms of peace. Therefore on November 3rd, 1936, the Mondothian Federation was formed. In 1957 the name was changed to the Republic of Mondoth to commemorate the recent shift to a parliamentary government system that finally unified all Mondothians under a single government. Since the unification the new Mondoth Government has displayed a religious and racial openness which has lead to a huge increase in Christian and Jewish immigrants. Despite being open to Atheists and Agnostics however, according to the last census, less than 1% of all Mondothian do not belong to a religion. Minor religions include: Hindu, Buddhism, Shinto and Daoist.

Recent History

In the late 1900s A small Islamic Fundamentalists group in southwest Mondoth declared its independence. After a prolonged insurgency the province of 'Naveira' was granted independence. During the war the Naveiran fundamentalists used many chemical weapons in terrorist attacks against Mondothian military centers. Luckily, after the Mondothian War that resulted in the Mondothian Federation in 1936, the Mondothian Medical establishment had flourished on memories of the biological and chemical weapons used in those campaigns and effectively limited the extent of the attacks. It was shortly thereafter that an entrepreneurial (and by many accounts insane) Geological Surveyor named Stanley Hye struck a very large oil deposit. This find, along with Mr. Hyes later geological finds has pushed Mondoth onto the world stage, largely self sufficient for industrial needs Mondoth has been able to look outward and trade profitably on an international scale. After the Hye strikes, the East Mondoth Trust was set up by government mandate to administer and sell the resources that have now been found to lie thick beneath the Eastern Desert region. It was after this, when Mondoth began building indigenous industrial wares (such as cars and military equipment) that a series of new foreign policies took shape, under the guiding hand of Prime Minister Muhhammed al Kahif Mondoth became not only a world economic power, but a world player. The Foreign policies created by al Kahif include the Biological non proliferation doctrine which allowed Modnothian military and police personnel to confiscate biological weapons wherever they are found. The Maritime Presence Policy which established a much larger and more powerful navy than had previously been available to actively 'show the flag' at potential trouble spots. The Political, Religious and Racial Refugee acts which allowed refugees from dangerous and offensive regimes to achieve full citizenship much faster than other immigrants. In fact, it was very soon after al Kahif was elected that Mondoth took part in the Nueve Italian Civil war, pledging portions of the newly increased navy along with a sizable Marine force. This conflict is important because it was the first foreign war Mondoth took an active part in, and it was by no means the last. To this day, Mondoth retains a very aggressive foreign policy, a tribute to the fiery ability of Muhhammed al Kahif, now retired from political life in an unknown Mondothian Province.

Pre-Revolution Government and Policies

The Stanwin administration strived to not only maintain the military projects and standards set by the al Kahif government, but also took great pains in strengthening the economy, Under Stanwin the GDP per capita rose from scarcely ten thousand to almost thirty thousand and continued to grow during the length of his administration. It was under the Stanwin Administration that a new series of military procurement policies emerged ultimately granting the military a huge portion of the budget which was further augmented by the sale of old equipment such as the retired 'Peregrine' class Carriers. Under Stanwin the government also developed stern stances on a number of issues including slavery and nuclear proliferation as well as continuing and expanding the anti biological weapons position to include other nations and international waters. Other expanded policies during the Stanwin Administration include: The expansion of government subsidiaries to include several key industries, the expansion of the Oil trade to include making inroads at acquiring or gaining influence over foreign deposits, new tax laws that eliminated special interests and religious institutions as tax free, a new eco friendly power push that built Hydrogen fuel cell systems to power homes and offices, Complete decommissioning of both the army (which was only a token force when Stanwin took office) and the MBT divisions (only a single tank squadron remained that was permanently stationed at Mondoth City), a new space policy sent Mondothians into space for the first time and finally a series of international trade initiatives gave Mondoth the prosperity it needed to survive on the modern political stage.

The Revolution

Near the end of Stanwin's administration, he began to take increasing interest in the separatist region of Naveira, alternately consigning it to government administration and granting the Naveirans independence, only to repeat the process again later. This focus became a slow madness, driving Mondoth into isolation while more and more resources were brought to bear on the rogue state. During this time, General Sharif al Kazahn was appointed Governor General of the Naveiran 'rogue province', a move that turned out to be a mistake. The Governor General was quickly sucked in by the cause and condition of the Naveiran people and within three years was marching across the Naveiran border at the head of an army. The fighting was long and hard, The Naveiran rebels eventually gained control of the capitol, Killing James Stanwin in the process, and the war quickly accelerated in their favour, eventually resulting in popular uprisings through out the Republic and MLoyalist Military that finally overthrew the Trinitarian Republic and forced the remains of the former government and loyalist military into exile. While most of Mondoth's over-seas holdings and military units remained loyalist, many Key Loyalist commanders defected to the Revolutionaries during the popular uprisings, leaving The Reformed Republic with a solid active military roster full of experienced commanders that the early stages of the revolution lacked.

Post-Revolution Mondoth

At The Close of Mondoth's Revolution, Abdul Bin Khassad, a wealthy Naveiran suporter of General Al Kazahn's revolution was appointed interim Prime Minister by a council of military and civilian leaders. Later, the appointment was confirmed by a general election of the Post-Revolutionary Government. While his Administration has not been around long, Khassad has instituted sweeping military and civil reforms to revitalize the ailing nation after the revolution, Several large contracts for rebuilding war-torn areas have been handed to the Drako Conglomerate, based in Mondoth, there have been many protestations of these actions, mostly focussing on the large amounts of work already being done by Conglomerate subsidiaries on Military contracts and non-competitiveness of bids. But independent studies and government committee's have universally found the company to be the best suited for the contracts and free from illegal business practices. Among Military reforms instituted by the Bin Khassad administration, a large scale restructuring of the navy has opened up new shipyards to construct new ships to replace vessels in service, giving mMondothian Navy, long focused on littoral operations in support of ground forces, a new sea-dominance capability. Bin Khassad has followed in the footsteps of past Mondothian leaders, recently expanding the Refugee Acts to protect 'furries' and generally expanding Mondothian foreign policy and influence.

Defenses

(AKA: Mondothian 'Invasion Guide') While Mondoth has never been invaded by foreigners, it has long been held by military analysts that, given Mondoth's periodical aggressive foreign policies, it is only a matter of time before a foreign power attempts an invasion. AS such, Mondoth has taken a keen interest in it's security, situated on an island sub-continent, defense from invasion is a matter of coastal defense. However, it has been a long standing tradition that Mondoth's beaches remain open for public use, a tradition that has extended to keeping visible military presence away from the coast line. Instead, a large number of concealed missile emplacements have been built near possible invasion landing sites, consisting of large numbers of sea-skimming anti-shipping missiles arranged in launching racks concealed in a structure and activated by regional defense command centers, these missile provide a deadly incentive to avoid invasion. Most of thee emplacements are defended by similarly concealed air defense systems, including Rolling Air-Frame Missile arrays and regional air bases with AAWACs Aerial sensing/control/attack aircraft and various Air Superiority Fighters and Interceptor Aircraft, the Majority of these bases also act as local airports. Port cities are generally defended by naval vessels as well as more comprehensive arrays of concealed weapons and local Marine garrisons.

In the event an invader manages to land troops on Mondoth's shores, they will face a viciously mobile defense, Marine divisions are regularly rotated from active duty and war-time assignments to defense garrisons in port cities, where access to air and maglev rail travel allow the marines to engage in classic hit-and-fade defense maneuvers, using Mondoth's large rural areas separating cities to draw an invader in to ambushes and drain momentum, eventually cutting invaders off from their supply lines and crushing them.

Mondoth's Secret Defenses?

Several civil and industrial projects have givin rise to speculation regarding 'secret' defense projects providing additional security to Mondoth's shores. Some of these projects include off-shore oil rigs and mooring facilities that may contain disguised missile and/or guns, or may simply act as staging points for Submarines, VTOL airtcraft and surface vessels. Under-water pipelines and cables that may be cover for laying tanks of Methane Hydrates that, when bubbled into the surrounding water, simulate natural 'mud volcanoes' that cause ships to sink due to a reduction of the water's natural buoyancy. Some patents and budget items generated by certain military projects known to be covers for secret initiatives have also opened speculation that Mondoth might posses chemical weapons capable of stalling aircraft that could be employed in defensive positions to stall enemy aircraft. Ultimately, the truth behind this speculation may never be known outside of high military circles, and certainly, many defenses not discussed here may exist unnoticed.
