LONGFOOTS IN AMAZING SECOND HALF BLITZ

Following their three goal first half in LordSquall a week ago, the Longfoots put in an even weirder performance against DePaul here in the Mount Ellery Cavern. Led by a hat trick by mountainside miracle worker, antarcticad, the Errinundrians piled on 5 goals, all in the second half. Yes. In one half.

With the score nil all at the break and complaints pouring in from all players about the wretched playing surface it was feared that the match could end as a disappointing dénouement to the previous day’s festivities. World Cup qualification was on the line. Defeat could mean LordSquall overtaking Errinundera in the race for the second qualifying place.

The tempo of a hitherto tight game was transformed eight minutes into the second half. antarcticad who had been creative throughout the first half shaped to score but cleverly passed to nyleptha. He was a bit too clever, actually, as she didn’t expect it. Justifying the enormous reputation that the 18-year-old twins have garnered, she displayed wonderful ball control to retrieve the situation and then placed the ball deftly past the goalie’s fingertips. Did she salute the crowd? No. She turned in the direction of her twin, sorais, and raised her fist in triumph.

Two minutes later there was almost a replay. Once again an attacking antarcticad ran towards the goal. This time he did not hide his intention to pass to nyleptha. At the last moment he gave the ball to sorais on his opposite side. Nonchalantly accepting the ball sorais scored as if it were the most natural thing the world, not the career first goal of a young player. And what did she do? Gave her sister an enormous one-finger salute. This earned her a yellow card. Trivia buffs are still searching the archives to see if anyone has ever before earned a yellow card for actions against a twin sister, let alone team mate.

From that point it seemed that both teams would play the game out. antarcticad had other ideas, though. He bagged a hat trick of goals, all scored in the last 20 minutes of the game. At the end of the match the fans didn’t applaud. They just shook their heads in disbelief.
