The NSDossier Tool

This is a little something we have been working on all year. It is finally ready for Public Release. It is almost done, but there are a few tweaks here and there that can be done. It could also use some documentation.

This tool will allow you to see any region with 300 nations or less at a glance. It will let you view any nation in the world (unlike other tools). It has all the same functionality as the NSEconomy tool and more. It has bar graphs and every column on the page will sort the results (without having to recollect the data).

Furthermore, it has listings for every region in the game with 20 or more nations. Anyone can see where any other region rank in size in the game. The Regions100 selection is the regions with 100+ nations, the Regions50 is the list of nations from 50 to 99, the Regions40 is all the regions with 40 to 49 nations in it, etc. These numbers are updated only once a week at the moment (Saturday or Sunday), but that may change.

Another feature is the 50LargestNations, 100LargestNations, 200LargestNations, 300LargestNations, 400LargestNations and 500LargestNations in NationStates. That is all that is pratical to keep up with.

If the regions or nations do not appear to be sorted by the size, then just click the column header and they will sort into order, if it goes the wrong way, click the column header again. Or, you can sort by any feature you like.

When NationStates is purring, the largest regions only take about 3 minutes on a cable modem. When NS is running an update (ie: deleting the dead nations from The Pacific), their site slows down considerably and since our page is connecting to their site, our site slows down as well.

If you are curious about the technical aspects, it is written in C#. It is running under Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. And, yes, we programmed it all (with some help on caching and multi-threading by some co-workers). All the economic forumulas are from Commerce Heights and his NS Economy web page (link at bottom of our page). We could not have done it if he had not made his PHP code publicly available.

If you have any questions or problems, there is a page for questions and comments. We are trying to kill any last bugs and optimize the code. Feel free to post links on your site or on Jolt or anywhere else you like.

We hope you enjoy the tool. If you have suggestions, we are open to them too, but no guarantees.

Hope you like it.

Have fun!
