1. Globe logo [now with transparency] (temp)

09:28, 2 Oct 2004 (GMT) i think it's great that it should look like a globe with the name over it but do we want the outline of the continents to look like those of earth? .../\...

  • Is it possible for Unistrut to make that the correct size (aka the same size as the first logo) --Defaultia 23:56, 4 Oct 2004 (GMT)
    • from IRC: [15:48:33] <Unistrut> I resized it BTW --Goobergunchia 19:50, 6 Oct 2004 (GMT)
      • You should reverse the gradient of the words from left to right, to right to left

Based on the Wikipedia logo, constructed in Photoshop. I decided to make it with a combination of RL and customized NS flags of significant nations. Then I "spherized" it, did a little lighting effects, and voila! I made B&W and color versions- the admin(s) can determine which is the best. :) by Syskeyia

  • I think I speak for the majority of NS players when I say we don't want the %$#@*& flag of Menelmacar on the NSwiki logo. Or the US flag, for that matter. -- Constantinopolis 15:07, 15 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • Exactly what I was thinking. The US flag does not deserve to be slap-bang in the middle of this seemingly multicultural game logo. -- Anonymous user.
  • I think they both look great, especially the colour one, but I agree with the comments above. Maybe made up flags should be there instead of real ones. I also think it should say NSWiki at the bottom (or NationStates Wiki) rather than 'Wikipedia NationStates'. 194.74.162.226 13:13, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • I like this one a lot, especially the concept. To suggest that the Menelmacari flag should not be on it is a bit idiotic IMO since it is just another player flag. However, I do think the RL flags ought to be replaced with OTHER NS flags. I mean... there are plenty of NS flags. (I would not mind being on it, but hey :P) Anyhow... I think I'd vote for this one if it had IC flags only and no US or Japanese flag thingies. That should not be too hard, no? If people still are afraid of OMG POLITICAL BIAS they should nominate on of their own flags. --Knoot 16:24, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • A relatively quick scan of Category:Nations will show an abundance of custom flags in the infobox areas of many nations. I don't have a problem with the "%$#@*& flag of Menelmacar", but given the sentiment here, perhaps it shouldn't be front and center. That hand-holding-a-globe one, now (top center) ... that one I could see in the center. I already told the owner to submit that as a logo here. I don't remember who it is, though. Frisbeeteria Θtalk 16:30, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • The "hand-holding-a-globe" flag is Santa Barbara's. I don't have a problem with the Menelmacari flag, but it shouldn't be so dominant as it is currently. Ditch the RL flags too. Also, what about the name? I really don't think it should say anything about "Wikipedia", it just further adds to the confusion. NSwiki is the name, stick with that. -- crimmer(Talk) 17:31, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • And with the "individual flags shouldn't be so dominant" thing I meant that the flags could be slightly smaller... -- crimmer(Talk) 17:34, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • This is the best of the bunch so far, but I second what's been said about flags: the US, Australian, Japanese and German flags don't really belong on there. Just to avoid contentiousness, I'd propose the default NS flag, ugly as it is, to go in the top-centre spot. (And, of course, I think my own flag would add a touch of much-needed green to the thing, but that's the ego talking. Galdago's is probably better for design and distinctiveness - I'd suggest Loop's latest, but there are certainly copyright issues there. Or, y'know, the UN flag.Rehochipe 17:22, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
    • Please, not the UN flag or I'm calling political bias. :P Seriously though, we should concern us with what *looks* nice. The position of the flag of Siri is hardly a political issue so I don't see why people should politicise it. *every* nations flag is 'biased' so I suggest we keep colour considerations central to this. Did I mention my flag has a green banner? :P (j/k). Anyway, Galdago has a nice flag too. The Default flag is teh ugly though. --Knoot 17:54, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
      • I don't think that the default flag is ugly. But I do think it does need to be in the center spot, because I think that it's most likely the most common flag. --Defaultia 20:57, 18 Oct 2004 (GMT)
  • I don't think it's a particularly good idea to use *any* recognisable nation flags - smacks of favouritism, and really, it's impossible to pick even a dozen flags which are properly representative of the hundreds of thousands of nations out there. -- Britannia 12:50, 19 Oct 2004 (BST)
  • Good idea, isn't going to work for political reasons already easily demonstrated (note how no one complained about *@$%! Melk's flag... Hate to break it to ya, Sys, but the Melk/Siri slapfight isn't the center of the NS universe (as much as we like to think it is). I'd say using third-world country RL flags is probably our best bet for this one simply because I very much doubt someone from Zimbabwe or Madagascar is going to complain that Sri Lanka has a flag up there and Monaco doesn't. Just this fool's opinion. --Scolopendra 03:35, 21 Oct 2004 (GMT)
    • I think it's fine to keep the Aboriginal flag, considering that it seems by the earlier responses, that not many people can distinguish it. {side point: GDP per capita, Monaco, $27,000 (1999 est.), although:second-smallest independent state in the world;Population:32,270 (July 2004 est.). Here's an idea I had, let me know if it's any good? BMP (better-looking): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/nick89/globe.bmp

    • It's the RL Earth, so what. Not like there's any decent maps of The Planet Earth.

Someone mentioned something about the idea of including the JG barcode, so I came up with this little PNG.

  • Like the idea. Especially like the eye and the letters. Not too fond of the way the globe looks though. -- |Knoot|KNOOtalk 21:20, 23 Oct 2004 (GMT)

Altered with new globe. 'Tis actually Earth this time. The eye is a bit less lucidly displayed, but overall it's still nice. I didn't want to put too much detail into it at first so I was thinking of not using Earth itself in the background, but here's a shot at it.

Ummm ... it's the same image. "NsWiki3.png", to be exact. Remove this if you replace the image, ok? Frisbeeteria Θtalk

Imageshack is a silly. Fixed. Good god I'm obsessing now. I'm hooked on NsWiki like I'm hooked on crack. Well, it's NSwiki, but that's a minor detail.

  • So should I consider the second image ("NSwikiC.png") to be the official submission for "10" in the vote? --Goobergunch|? 20:39, 7 Nov 2004 (GMT)

Sure. Unless you want to make it another vote. -WinkWinkCoughCough- --Fodian Federa 23:43, 7 Nov 2004 (GMT)

Jee, I hope I'm allowed to put this here... I'm sorta combining two ideas here, and using my very very limited photo editing skills to come up with a mockup. If someone else wanted to redo this image to make it look more professional, and to make it smaller, I'd be fine with that. -Gryph (gryph@earthling.net)

  • Love the way the eye is a globe! However, I think that it still looks too much like the cover to Jennifer Government. Monte Ozarka 02:49, 11 Nov 2004 (GMT)
